Getting familiar with the group...
I'm looking at a 2009 CPO with 41K on the clock. With all the talk about 2009's with bad suspensions, what should I look for or should I pass on the 2009 models and focus on a 2010?
What are they asking?
Whats your budget?
Test drive it on a bumy road (doesn't have to be high speed). Personally, I would wait for a 2010, but up to you.

FYI, I have a 2009 and spent $1650 parts and labor to upgrade suspension to 2010/2011 specs.
Mark_888, is the ride that bad?
If you do get a 2009, you can upgrade just the rear stabilizer (about $200 parts and labor) using the 2012 part, and probably get noticeable improvement. There is a thread on this.
Check the MFR date on the door sticker. Dates >= April 2009 will have the mid year suspension update.
Some clarification is needed. Here are the various suspension versions:Yes, based on several hours of research mostly on this forum in the suspension section, 2009's with a build date after April 8, 2009 have the modified rear suspension.
See my post above for "revised suspension" versions.Gunkk, I'll look at the door sticker. So anything from April onward It should have the revised suspension?
I'll be honest I drove a 2009 Tech Package, and honestly I did not notice anything. Now the roads here in South Florida (I'm in Miami) for the better part are just about perfect, very smooth. I'll be paying close attention to the suspension.
For heavens sake, DRIVE IT ! You like, YOU BUY. ( I owned a 2009, loved it )
It's not brain surgery !![]()
A lot of us who purchased the early 2009 Genesis took a test drive in the area around the dealer, and the roads were smooth, but we got a rude shock when we found out that car was very bouncy when roads were not so smooth or not so flat. It was very unusual because I prefer a firm ride and never even imagined that a car like the Genesis would have a suspension issue.LOL, yeah, I took that approach with my previous used 2006 Subaru STi, and wound up paying for a nightmare for 5 years. My penance for not doing my DD, believing I could work out the bugs. All I did was hemorrage money. Never again.
Nothing wrong with helping someone purchasing a used car.

I upgraded my early 2009 suspension to 2010/2011 specs, and it is now acceptable, but not perfect. New tires also helped.
