  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

ok yall. my question of they day:

i bought my Genesis used with one key fob but the key was uncut.

i finally got it cut last week by a decent local locksmith. Two days ago my key fob buttons stopped working 🤦🏾‍♂️.

so now i can unlock the doors when i push the button on the handle (or with the actual key) the car starts up fine (transponder/chip is working,) but the unlock/lock and trunk button dont work. And i just replaced the fob battery. i can see the light turning on when i push the buttons.

i have a obd bluetooth reader that programs keys (i have the dealer code/pin - locksmith gave it to me.) but that fails every time i try to program the fob.

locksmith says he doesnt know whats going on.

any ideas?

So, were both original keys lost, and a new key was bought, but they didn't cut the actual key? That's what it sounds like.

Hate to say it, but you may need to go to a Genesis dealer - and be prepared to pay.

Trying to think how this happened... all I can come up with is a repo situation.

Well the good news is the dealer can fix it. Might be an opportunity to get a key card along with a key fob. I hear the card can be bought online and programmed at the dealer, but it's not cheap. The card stays in your wallet, but you can't open the car by pressing a card button. You need the fob for that.
