  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Not an experts but looks like you had a long way to go yet. How much did the test cost? I'm sure we dump a lot of good oil following rules by miles from decades ago.

Interesting. Wonder what spiked the Titanium reading? Not sure what components inside an engine actually are Titanium? It’s sort of an exotic metal I see in use more in aircraft. It’s light weight but more costly than most typical metals.

It's $30 for the test, and an extra $10 for the TBN test to determine if your oil still has the additives needed to extend your OCIs.

They will mail you a test kit for free. Pricing has gone up, I think I paid half that about 10 years ago. Still, not bad to do every 1-2 years to see how your engine is doing. I had a couple done on my G37 and was told to keep driving on the oil both times, I was doing 5k intervals.

The oil seem good at 5k miles, however it does seem to be near the low end of expectation in terms of ideal viscosity numbers; so I would not attempt to go more than 6k miles on it. Just my opinion.

Good report overall!:)

Titanium is used in engine oil as anti-wear agent. I assume that Castrol high mileage oil use quite a bit of titanium in its oil additive package for wear protection based on the report.

I had no idea one could do this at all. A friends tells me that this is an "excessively deep rabbit hole", suggesting that I don't want to go down it. :)

When I heard about the Blackstone testing and became intrigued, I was a bit of an obsessive oil changer and was curious if my driving habits broke the oil down sooner than expected.

Blackstone points out on their website that businesses with vehicle fleets can save a lot of money by extending OCIs across their fleet. If you have 100 trucks and can go 2,500 miles further on the oil without risk to the engine, why not, it's a considerable savings.

It's not bad to do the test at least a few times to see where you stand, especially if you use the same oil all the time. Check it at 5k, if okay go to 7k, if good go to 9k. You never know. It can also spot engine problems before they become a major issue.

Did the report out of curiosity since I was changing the oil every 5k. Was more interested in my Transmission Fluid report so I did this one at the same time. Pretty sure the guy that bought my car didn't even care...
