If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello Everyone -

This is my 1st post in your forum and sorry for the long post. I am considering the purchase of a 2010 3.8 V6 Genesis to replace my 2008 Lexus ES350. I like my Lexus and would not really be ready to make a switch but I am not as confident in my car as at once was considering all the recent events. That said if anyone could chime in on the following concerns I have that would be great:

1. Rear Wheel Drive: My Lexus is a front wheel drive car and my previous car, a BMW 335, was rear wheel. Maybe it was the size of the BMW but I was not all that happy with rear wheel drive having only driven front wheel drive cars. The BMW was terrible in the wet and dangerous in light snow or icing conditions like we get here in Nashville.

How do you feel about the rear wheel drive? Do you feel confident in how the car performs for you in wet ponding conditions and light snow?

2. Tech package: I am leaning toward the tech package because it would give me more or less everything I have now including cooled seats which I have come to like. Bit of a bummer they are not in the passenger seat.

For those that have the tech package, do you like it? Would it be similar to iDrive?

3. Fuel economy: I am not a lead foot and tend to get 21mpg in town on my ES350 and just shy of 30 on the highway. What type of gas milage do you get? Also, I have no problem putting top grade Shell/Exxon gas in the car. I just do not want it to be much below 19 or 20 in town.

4. Ride: I noticed some mention a bouncy ride on certain roads. Did not experience this in the test drive. In my Lexus I do feel it might be a bit unstable on patchwork , rough, pothole ridden roads.

Is the "bounce" distracting? One of the things I hated about the BMW is it road like a truck and every time you went over a bump it felt like you were loosing a kidney. So soft is not bad but mushy Buick is not.

5. Tires: I have read that people hate the tires. I tend to go for Michelin myself and could put on a good set of all seasons when the time came or even right away.

6. Price: What do you feel a V6 Tech can be bought for? BMW expected full price period and in Nashville they even offer to pay more just because it is cool to do so.

Thoughts on the tires? Do you really need winter tires? We really do not have snow filled winters but we did have a few days where it was not great and you could have gotten stuck. So in the course of a year I would say maybe 2-4 days a year you might choose just to stay home on 1"-2"'s of snow. We really do not have snow removal in Nashville. They even lost a few snow plows this year...overturned in the ditch in 3".

Can you really get close to invoice and is there a good source for invoice pricing on the Genesis?

6. Wing emblem: This seems pretty cool? Worth adding? What parts of the car can get it?

Anyway thanks for taking the time to answer some or all my questions. It is really appreciated.

1, Genesis has Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as do most new cars., and this helps a lot. If you get some good all season tires, you should be OK.

2. I don't have it and don't know about iDrive.

3. V6 is designed to use regular only, and premium is a waste of money and maybe not be all that good for the engine. V8 uses regular or premium (like many Lexus vehicles). EPA rates the V6 at 18/27 and most people seem to get about one mpg more than that. Best mileage is actually at about 70 mph due to 6 speed tranny and two over-drive gears.

4. Suspension was changed for 2010 to address that issue. Still has a firm ride that is definitely different than a Lexus ES, but you getting very good handling in return.

5. Dunlops are probably not as bad as some claim, and they should definitely last you through the summer until you need something with better snow/ice traction next winter.

6. You should easily be able to get a Genesis at around 2K below list.

6. Wing emblem: The wing emblems are official Hyundai parts from the Korean version of the Genesis, and are imported by several companies including Korean Auto Imports. Some dealers have purchased the wings and install them on the cars they sell. They are not official parts imported by Hyundai Motor America.

If you purchase the Genesis and it doesn't have the wings on the hood, trunk, and wheels. Do this....... Negociate your price and at the very, very end have the dealer throw in the wing package in order to complete the sale. You will save $300 dollars or so. I did it with a little pressure and was very happy.:welcome:
