2010 Price Paid

Re: Need Advice on possible purchase of "09" Genesis

I am looking at possibly purchasing an "09" V-6 Genesis left over at my local dealer.

1. It has approx 300 miles on the odometer

2. It has black leather interior

3. Has the premium package w/18" rims

The asking price is $30,995

What do you guys think? Is it a good deal or can I wheel and deal with them a little more on the price?

I went to the hyundai website to see what the interior is called, and when I tried to build one to compare prices and features the only available option on the website was cashmere or saddle? Didn't find any option on interior color for black? Was that discontinued for 2010?

Also can somebody explain to me what the suspension issues are that I have been reading about on the forum? If so what was changed suspension wise for 2010?

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm hoping I'll be in a new Genesis soon if things work out?
Have no idea if you can get a better price, but I would offer them $1500 less.

Depending on what the exterior color is, it is possible that you cannot get a black interior in 2010. But black interiors are definitely still available for most exterior colors.

Hyundai supposedly changed the shocks mid-year 2009, and definitely changed the shocks and springs for 2010. Most likely, the springs were made softer and the shocks were made stiffer, so they would be in better balance with each other. You should test drive both the 2009 and 2010 on some rough roads (does not have to be at high speed) to see what the difference is and what is the best choice for you.

Other than the suspension, the changes for 2010 were very minor, and if the 2009 was built after mid-year 2009 (check manufacture date in the door jam) you may be OK with the ride. The 2009 has a lower resale value than a 2010, but if you keep the car a long time it may be a good deal. Personally, I would want the 2010 suspension changes, but that is just me.

I got a 2009 V6 with Premium Plus at the end of February for 36,100 (before tax), which included mud guard. I am also a current owner of the Azera.

The first dealer offer me 36,000 for the V6 with Premium, but this dealer beated it with the Premium Plus package.

My dealer has to trade with another dealer from a different state for the exact color I want.

I am very happy with this deal.:welcome:

Just bought a Titanium gray V6 with tech package.

MSRP: $41,900
Sale price: $37,500 + TTL

Also, good deal on my 2007 camry trade in. If anyone in the Houston area needs a dealer reference, let me know.

Who's your dealer? I'm not buying till the EOY and even then I'll jump on the HAPP if it's still around, but it's still nice to know who to deal with.

Thanks for the reply. I'll see what they will take for the car and post back.

The color of the car is white satin pearl I forgot to put down. After messing around on the Hyundai website it looks like the 2010 white satin pearl is not available with black leather anymore? Nice color combination if you ask me I wonder why they discontinued that combo? Probably not enough demand maybe?

I guess that's good for me if I end up getting that vehicle? Don't know yet fingers crossed.

Also I read up on the suspension issues last night until 2 a.m.

Looks like it might be subjective as to what car you are coming from?

Anything would have a better ride/suspension set up from my current vehicle.

When I test drove the vehicle on Sat I didn't notice any weird bobbing or unsettled feeling coming from the suspension? I need to check the production date of the vehicle.

And finally I would prefer to have a 2010, but if I can score the 2009 for 5-7k less than a comparably equipped 2010 and that particular color combo it's probably going to sway my decision and my pocketbook.

Thanks guys!

HMA orders the color combinations from the factory based on what they think demand is, taking input from dealers and a few customer focus groups.

Everything is subjective when it comes to car preferences, including the ride. Hyundai made suspension changes around April of 2009, and again for 2010 models, so they must have thought that the early 2009 models needed improvements. But I would imagine that a 2009 model you are talking about has the mid-year 2009 changes, and is not quite so bouncy in the rear on rough roads as the early 2009 model year.

You said the asking price for the 2009 is 31K. I would think you could get an equivalent 2010 model for about 34K without much trouble. I think it partly depends on how long you are going to keep the car as to whether it pays to get a 2009 or 2010. In another 7 months the 2011 models will likely be for sale.

True. It varies from car to car, but generally in about 5-6 years, a one year difference in age, is insignificant. At that point mileage and condition become much more important factors.

This is a general rule. Some things that make a difference are model changeovers, significant upgrades and known defects. For example, in a 5 years a 2011 Sonata will still be worth more than the 2010 because of the body style change.

While the suspension gets a lot of discussion here, it is unlikely to be a big factor in resale in a 5-6 years. On the other hand, if Hyundai makes some big improvements in the 2011 model, like a new more powerful engine, you might see a little more demarcation of pricing between the 2009/10's and the 2011's.

Speaking of savings, in the long run, the real savings come when you keep a car past the 5-6 year mark. That is where the depreciation curve really starts to taper off. This is where reliability becomes a HUGE factor. The more reliable the car, the less it will cost you in those later years.

Hi All -- Just sent some notes out to dealers in general and received quotes of 38,700 for 4.6 tech package. How much lower do you all think I can go???>

I've been thinking about purchasing a Genesis and came across a great deal from Costco. From April 1st through May 31st, Costco and Hyundai have teamed up to offer Costco members a very low price on the Genesis and Veracruz models. The special price is; dealer cost, less 3% off MSRP, less $250 Hyundai bonus and Costco will throw in a $500 Costco gift card after filling out a survey. So a 4.6L with tech pack will cost me $39,177 and I still get a $500 Costco card later. I just spoke with a dealer in Portland, OR and he confirmed the program. He said that Costco members are getting the Hyundai employee price. Not bad considering that my Costco membership card only cost me $100. This is a deal I can't pass up as I've been thinking about buying a Genesis. So if anyone is still thinking about buying Genesis, I would check out Costco on line.

I'm very envious.........I paid $39750.00 on ebay for the same equipment, flew to Kansas City and drove back 18 hours to the east coast in October and I was proud of the deal

2009 4.6 w/ 112miles. Black Opal - black leather, Tech Package, Ipod cable, net, wheel locks, other misc dooo hickeys....

$35,000.00
no trade (xj-8)

Thats what I paid for my 2009 4.6 but white pearl with saddle leather. Oh, and it had 3,000+ miles on it.

I'm in Canada and I just picked up a dealer demo with 19,000 kms on it

09 3.8 tech package
7 yrs-120k warranty.
full set of winter tires on stock Hyundai rims.
full set of Summer 5 spoke rims with tires.
.9% purchase finance
$35,000.00, I'm happy....:D

It still looks like HyundaiCircle.com has lower prices no? The only thing I am confused about is that for the same vehicle, it looks like the prices still have different ranges. The car I am trying to spec out is the 2010 Genesis 4.8 w/Tech and I get a range anywhere from $36.5 to $39.2, any ideas why?

I'd be amazed if you can get an '10 V8 tech for $36.5K. That is the best price I've seen for the '09. Come to think of it, when I was trying to buy an '10 I got a couple good quotes that turned out to be '09's...one was even a demo with 3000 miles on it, but the dealer didn't mention it till I got there.

That is why I thought it was so odd how some dealers were listing those numbers...

I don't think a 2010 V8 tech could go that low. $38k yes, maybe $37.5k if you haggle enough.
For a V8 base(non-tech), yes it's possible.

There are a few leftover 2009s in our area... Are the dealers wheeling this or are they still sitting forever at current price?

An off kilter example, we were able to negotiate $11,000 off a new 2009 Volkswagen CC VR6 4motion that msrp was a little over $40,000. Before we jumped on it, I had to reconsider because I like the Genesis a little bit better :) Is it possible to get a similar deal on one of these

As I mentioned in post 110, my local dealer has V8 tech's for $36,999

That looks like a good price for a premium. I paid $400 more.

Might just not be available with a particular exterior color. Car companies refine options to reduce costs and deliver the most popular based on customer purchases...sometimes even mid model year.

Also can somebody explain to me what the suspension issues are that I have been reading about on the forum? If so what was changed suspension wise for 2010?

Supposedly there were spring, damper rate and bushing changes to refine the suspension in 2010. Some have reported that it didn't make much difference, others that it did.

The issue is that it can feel unsettled. Some people misinterpret this as it being too stiff, but it is more of an issue with inadequate damping for the weight and spring weight which can cause the vehicle to pitch too much over some surfaces.

IMHO, it isn't a deal breaker, but I would pay extra to get a suspension that was more optimized. I plan on driving an 2010 and if there is a noticeable improvement, I will buy the newer components.
