  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So 5 days ago I bought a used 2011 genesis. Tonight while I was driving my brake pedal lost almost all of it's resistance and slowly stops the car when I get it much closer to the floor. I have no lights on my dash saying there is a problem or anything in the car letting me know something is wrong. I brought it home immediately and checked the forums. Found lot of things about this problem. I tried to check for leaks in the brakes but it's raining and everything is wet. I saw that they had a recall out on my car for a braking problem but when I got a PPI 5 days ago the dealership said no recalls were out on the vehicle? Anyone have this problem before. All of the other threads don't come to a conclusion but suggest the ABS control module is bad or the master cylinder is bad. I'm assuming if the ABS control module is bad then my dash would be lit up with the ABS light.

If I press hard fast then the brakes work like normal but if I slowly come to a stop then it forces the pedal all the way to the ground gradually. When the car is off and I try and start it, the brakes have normal resistance. Can't really determine if the ABS control module is replaced because of the recall or I'm going to be paying a massive repair bill 5 days after buying. I'm going to bring it to the shop tomorrow to get it looked at. Just wondering if anyone has this problem and how was it resolved?

EDIT: It has 57k miles if that makes a difference

Get that fixed ASAP. Hopefully you have a warranty ... but if not it should cost ~$2500-3000. Depending on your state laws you may have a return/refund option if purchased from a dealer.

That's the exact symptom that my 2009 had when it's HECU/ABS module failed. Sometimes I'd get a full pedal, sometimes I'd get a soft pedal just as you describe, and once it went to the floor with no brakes at all. I don't recall ever seeing an ABS light on my '09. On my '12 yes, but not the '09.

Gunkk

No warranty, no return policy in MO. Not feeling to good about this.

I think there was ABS module recall, but I may be mistaken.

But this was official and had this done on my 2011 4.6

Hyundai Genesis brake recall fix

Yea i'm definitely buying one off ebay and having a local shop install it. Still seems to be in the 500 dollars range. If i buy another one though would the same problem happen again?

I thought that was my problem too when my pedal went mushy. Dealer said there was moisture in the brake system and did a flush and refill. Brakes okay now!

Well that's good news. Glad it was only the fluid.
