  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2011 4.6 to a 2013 3.8

There's no business case that can currently be made for standalone Genesis/Equus dealers.

On the other hand, I would like to hear from the OP as to the performance difference between the 4.6 V8 and the 3.8 V6.

Hyundai currently has about 800 dealers in the US. In order to offer a new brand with a separate dealer network they would have to get at least 150 dealers who were willing to invest at least $5 million (land, building, inventory, working capital, etc) to start a dealership. Hyundai is not going to create a separate brand until they know there are 150 dealers ready to sign on. Lexus has 230 dealers in the US, Acura has 270, and Infiniti has about 200 dealers.

When you say "If I had the means ABSOLUTELY" do you mean if you were filthy rich and had money to burn? But if you had a total net worth of $5 million, would you be willing to invest it all and risk being bankrupt if it didn't work out? Running a car dealership is a business, and people don't invest in that unless they are pretty sure they can make a profit.

Look 888 you can't complain that no one is buying your wonderfully cooked 9oz Filet Mignon and 14 oz Lobster dinner plate that you charge $50 US for when it is on the menu at Bobs Big Boy or Friches depending on your geography. Wrong audience and wrong location. Same with the Genesis and Equus.

At NO point in any of my posts did I say that this venture would be PROFITABLE out of the gate; or that it needed to be stand alone; add it on to existing dealerships. It's an investment for the long haul; and if you believe that these vehicles and Hyundai are going to do well in the long run you take a risk and invest. If this was done I am pretty sure that the dealers and Hyundai could make a profit and get their fair share of the upscale car market.

I would be happy if they just fixed the brake failure and brake light failure problem before it actually happens (as it seems to happen to a very large number of owners eventually). I guess they figure if the brakes fail, we don't need brake lights.

What, no complaints about oil consumption and soot?

Ya know, the Acura is branded as a Honda across the pond.

I don't have that on my car. Not exactly life threatening.

It does not have to be life threatening for someone to make a comment!

They just might add it on as a brand to existing dealers. But don't hold your breadth in case they don't, and not sure that would satisfy everyone.

As far as investing for the long haul, I know some automakers will provide financing to help start a dealership, but it was my understanding those are loans that had to be paid back. So are you asking independent dealers to take a risk for the long haul and open a dealership with no short profits, or are you asking Hyundai to do that? I suspect one of us has a misunderstanding about the financial arrangement between automakers and dealers, although I admit I am not 100% certain which one of us that is.

If you expect Hyundai to put up the money and pay $5 million for each of 150 dealers, then that would be $750,000,000. If you assume that Hyundai makes $5K profit per car that would be 150,000 extra cars they would have to sell to break even (over and above what they would have sold as Hyundai branded vehicles).

Personally, in the age of the Internet, I think the current car dealer paradigm is a bit dated, and somewhat obsolete.

You are free to make what ever comment you want. Hopefully I am free to respond. You posted the following:

All I said is that IMO Hyundai should address the brake failures (and brake light failure issue, which is actually a different issue) first before worrying about the engine/gearbox falling flat. I am not exactly sure what you mean by that anyway, since I don't think it has been widely complained about on this forum (at least for normal acceleration) in the 4.5 years I have been a member. I have never had any acceleration or transmission problems with my Genesis.

I have to say I admire your use of the language - Top Marks..

I would point out that in my Post I did make note of both irksome & dangerous -> The i.e. is just that an i.e...

As a owner of a 2010 4.6 I can say one reason I considered the car is because
of those "Lexus, BMW,Mercedes" types that would never buy one simply because of the Hyundai name or logo. Please, the Genesis sedan has nothing to explain.

My take is Hyundai is korean for "don't be a SNOB". I would never consider a Mercedes, BMW or Lexus after owning a Genesis.

Just like I won't pay $100 for Ralph Lauren chambre shirt:rolleyes:
