If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Everyone, I have have 2011 Genesis 4.6L sedan (172432 miles) that have been experiencing some weird electrical issues. I would have the occasional moments where the center dial won't work, but it rebounds momentarily or on the next startup. However now I am having a some medium electrical issues. I do not consider it major because core functions still to the drive safely during the daytime. The car starts as normal and the normal indication check lights in the IC comes on. Everthing works expect A/C (lights or comes on), sun roof (closed and will not open), rear window shade (up but will not go down), the IC lumination lights do not come on, no display in the IC LCD (only display the mileage when turning the car off or when I pressing the start button and holding without pressing the brakes when the key in the reader) and the backup camera does not display when I pit the car in reverse. I checked all of the fuses and replaced the battery (4 years old). What is weird is that it all came working for about 1 day and then the next day the same issues (before the battery replacement). I brought it to the dealer and they were able to figure out issue, the mechanic said he could not find any issue with the ecu and said that the sun roof was not getting power and the motor for the rear shade needed to be replaced and suggested that there is an electric short some where in the car wanted to try replacing the wiring hardness but I did not allow it since I would be paying out of pocket. The car still drives like new, I do all the maintenance myself (fluid changes, struts replacement, etc.) and would replace and balance the tires too if I had the machine. Until now, it has been a very good car and want to keep it to allow my son to drive locally as needed. Any ideas what could be causing this or heard of these type of issues? Any input would be greatly appreciated..

the mechanic suggested that there is an electric short some where in the car... Any ideas what could be causing this or heard of these type of issues?

The mechanic is on the right track. Find a competent automotive electrician and pay her/him $200 or so for a proper diagnosis and estimate to fix.

similar issues on my 2013 3.8 base 100k

turn signal / headlight switch works intermittently. I've been hesitant to replace it because when it isn't working, my AC doesn't blow cold, and my fob doesnt work - need to unlock with the key. when any of the above mentioned does start working, i know I can can use any of the other things - until things quit working again.

Thank you for the advice, it did not cross my mind to look for an “automotive electrician” specialist. I did a search and found more than I expected in my area. I will do some background work and select a shop. I will update this tread the results. Thank you again…

I had similar issues with my key fob, check the battery connectors in the fob. Overtime, the battery metal connector looses its firm contact to the battery. My fob 1st would only work intermittently and one day it stop working and I had to use the key to unlock. So, I finally opened the fob up and pulled the metal connectors up a little to get a firmer connection to the battery and my fob started working again. For the past 2 years no key fob issues since adjusting the metal connectors. Try opening the key fob and pull the metal battery connector up (be gentle - do not break it) then place it in the fob reader, start the car and let it run for 5 minutes, turn the car off, remove the fob, close the door then try unlocking or locking the doors pressing the fob button. Also, if it has been 3+ years since replacing the battery, try placing the battery as well. A low electrical current can cause intermittent electrical issues as well.

For the A/C, either the compressor is not working or your A/C needs a recharge with freon and you may have a freon leak in the system. I would try recharging it first (YouTube has great videos on how to recharge the system yourself). If you recharge it and still does not blow cold then it is more likely your compressor. If blows cold for a while and then stops blowing cold then you have a leak in the system somewhere.

i'll check the fob battery connections thanks - i have replaced the battery with no changes.

will get around to recharging the freon too but idk - they all stop/start working at the same time, seems electrical

still haven't recharged the AC but i don't think it needs to be done..ordered and installed a new turn signal/wiper switch. The blinkers, lights, wipers, AC, and driver/pass door locks now working.

5 minutes later, i lost all of those. took the column back apart, unplugged the switch, plugged it back in and everything works again.:cautious:

it happened a couple more times this morning on my drive home, i left the column plastics off so i could easily unplug and replug the switch while driving. fixes it every time.

This is starting to seem like a really weird electrical gremlin that I really don't have the time, money, or tools to sort out. I'm thinking I may just try tapping a switch into the power wire of the blink/wiper switch to simulate pulling the plug so i can put my column back together
