In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. i'm planning on purchasing a base v6 sedan. i've only been in cars with premium leather and never have seen or experienced the non-premium leather

can someone chime in on the comparison between the two leather seating surfaces?

and has anyone put in navigation in the base model? if so pix? :)

thats only two questions I have for today

Thanks!

The base car leather is not the perforated type I think but was otherwise acceptable. Aftermarket in dash nav is going to be tough because of the profile of the installed radio. I don't think I have seen anything that has a similar shape. Check someplace like Crutchfield for fitment as they have a pretty good configurator online and have online notes about fitment issues.

leather seats on the base model was still pretty comfortable. Better than my friend's BMW 325i fake leather seats.

As for installing a navigation, why not spend that extra money to get the premium version?

well price is like $5000more... then tech is what 7000more, and v8 is 10000more lol

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yes the V8 is $10k more but the list of extra features in addition to the upgraded nav is endless. Engine, brakes, electronics, trim etc. are all upgraded on the 4.6. If it was possible and I still think it is not, replacing the standard in dash radio for an aftermarket full featured nav/infotainment head unit with an amp and good premium speakers would far excede the cost of just ordering a a V6 with the premium plus nav package(+$4500) assuming a professional installation and no wires hanging. And at least the factory system would not look like an after thought and you get several goodies beside just navigation. The other solution would to just have a Magellan on the top of the dash or stuck to the windshield.

I bought the Premium, as I wanted the better radio, and the 18 inch wheels, but I STILL USE MY GARMIN for Nav. Don't like the Hyundai nav as I don't find it intuitive to use, and besides, the Garmin estimates time of arrival better, and gives a lot more information about areas, driving speed by GPS, and the like. Plus, anywhere I have been to in the past for the past 4 years is in my Garmin, and I can download this info to the internet, and load onto a new Garmin whenever I choose to get one.

So i would NEVER pay the extra $4500 for nav, if that were the only reason I was upgrading.

Oh, and this little biggie: I bought lifetime updates for my Garmin for the United States and Europe for $129. On this board people are complaining about the $300 update for Nav, and that's for ONE update.

Doesn't make sense to me. Good GPS units are running $250, and unless you are traveling for a living, they don't take up space in the car until needed.

My point of view.

I seldom use Nav, but when I do I don't like the dangling wires and smallish screens many units have. I had a Magellan which performed OK, but was a nuisance to install and remove every time I stopped, which is why in-dash nav was a selling point for me. I don't travel a lot, and will seldom, if ever, update my database. Different strokes...

I have a Garmin as well. Mine has the land maps and the inland lakes and waterways and I agree it is far superior to any factory installed GPS. Mine is water and vibration proof as I needed it for both my boat and my motorcycle. It has nifty little features like trip computer, preplanned stops and many more POIs than the factory system. My point to him was the extra cost for the basic package that includes the base nav system includes far more upgrades than just the nav. 18" wheels, upgraded leather, sunroof, sunshade, Lexicon sound system etc are also included. I actually don't think I have ever seen a base Genesis that has no options, they must be really rare. The other thing I would worry about is the fact that the wiring on these things is incredibly complex with one wire performing several functions and the radio head unit being a central part of the electrical system and I would be hesitant to let some Bozo loose on it with dikes, tie wraps and scotch connectors, hacking out the old radio and jury rigging in the new one. Also, doesn't the standard radio also incorporate the HVAC display control? That would be hard to do without.

i don't know how they will feel in the long term, but i did sit in both variations of the the seats last month at a dealership. when you look at them, you can see the difference. the premium looks like there is more padding to it. then when you sit in them, you can tell even more of a difference. the base leather is a litter firmer/tighter. if the seats were more of the bucket type, i would say the base leather is for the sports car variety. when you sit in the premium leather, the leather is much softer to the touch. the softer leather and extra padding makes for a plushier feel. for this, it i would put this feel in the luxury car category.

both are good, but it depends on what your butt wants to cruise in. i am in the same predicament. we have only two dealerships here and most of the cars are base v6's. the only premium leather available is either in a exterior color i don't want or in a v8. i think i can live with the base leather as it is like my current car. but if i am going to put that much coin in a new car, i would at least like a v6 with premium package...

I have the base 2010 model. The black leather is of high quality. It is perforated and comfortable. I do not remember the premium leather quality as I did not want a sunroof. The base model also had the 17 inch wheels. Some of the other tiers have 18 inch wheels. The wider wheels probably ride more firmly than the standard wheels.

Good luck in your selection.

P.S. A portable navigation is a great option.

yeah...for nav I would only get it for audio and BT graphics/user interface

i would seldom use navigation but love being able to preview next channel/music or view my phone book.(i assume so)

i'm 26 so I don't need the v8...although I could, but i wont.

seating would have been my biggest concern. so they are perforated but not as supple as the premium leather... hmm I may just go for that.

do they offer SADDLE in base? I want white with saddle no if ands and buts.

there is no base v6's near by me though, which means i would have to wait a while for it

I would go for the premium package and just get a portable navigation separately. Premium package is worth the investment if you were already thinking about getting an after market in dash navigation.

contrary to what one dealership said, a base v6 does comes in saddle (i think he just wanted to sell me his white w/beige one). as i stated before, we only have two dealerships in hawaii. the other dealership has exactly what you and i are looking for (white w/saddle). however, they want $37k for it. it's still sitting on their lot after three months. maybe i will contact them at the end of the year...

i just don't care for the upgrade sound system... and the 18" wheel on the prem pack is not the best looking anyway....

all I wanted to know was if the saddle was available in base which is a good thing.

what about 2012? i hear upgrades/facelifts....etc

i ... and the 18" wheel on the prem pack is not the best looking anyway....

Just as on the Base model seventeen inch wheels are standard on the Premium package without navigation.

Are you aware that the Base model doesn't have a telescoping steering wheel?

they gotta have a manual telescoping wheel....

anyone notice they have Xenon light standard on one back of the E-brochure but not on the options list? :)

There is no telescoping wheel on base model. Neither manual nor power telescoping wheel is available. However, tilt wheel, with power seat adjustments, is more than adequate. As an aside, no telescoping wheel means the potential broken telescoping wheel cannot occur.

The HID's only come with the Technology Package, or you can buy a kit for around $100 and put them in yourself.
