  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello I was just curious if anyone has the same shifting points as me. My car shifts at around 200-300 rpms but every single video that I see on YouTube I’m seeing all of the cars shift at 500-600 rpms. I can’t find one video of a genesis like mine that shifts this low. The car seems like it runs fine I just want to know if it’s normal, it’s weird to me that I’m seeing almost every other genesis shift in high rpms and mine is the only one that shifts at low rpms. Anyone have similar shift points ? Is something wrong with my car or am I just being paranoid ? Seems like there’s almost 0 performance issues but I just got the car almost a month ago so idk if it ran differently before I bought it. Please get back to me asap thanks.

Btw it’s a 2011 3.8 Genesis Sedan, I thought it was just a because it’s pre-2012 but I saw a couple videos of the 2010 model shifting at high rpm’s as well so kinda confused.

You're missing a "1" in front of your RPM numbers. No car will even run at 200rpm -- never mind shifting shift at 200rpm -- without stalling. If your tachometer actually is showing you 200rpm when the car is shifting, then see your dealer or an automotive electrician to troubleshoot the gauge cluster.

For fuel economy purposes, the cars are programmed to keep rpms close to 1200 while cruising below ~45mph. A normal shift with light throttle input under slow acceleration <45mph will start at about 1500 and end around 1200. If it's beginning to shift at 1200 and ending at 800, then your throttle input is likely either negligible or the car is decelerating (or there's a gauge issue as mentioned above). Also consider that HVAC will kick up rpms a by couple hundred at and around idle under normal conditions, so if your AC is off, it might shift 1k rpm lower.

If you're actually under light throttle input and accelerating and the car starts to shift at 1200 and ends at 800, you should be hearing the engine lug, and that's no bueno. See your dealer or a transmission shop with a GDS/Autel that can interrogate and/or reset the TCM in your car.

My fault I’m trippin 😂😂 I was missing a 0 at the end of each time I mentioned Rpms. It usually shifts at around 2000 rpms. But if you look up Hyundai Genesis sedan 0-60 pov almost all videos will show them shifting at 6000 rpms. Almost red lining on each shift basically.

Haha well then ... yeah ... 2k rpm is a normal shift point for light-to-moderate throttle. Make sure your floor mat isn't blocking pedal travel.

I don't recommend driving the car WOT. The transmission is the weakest link in the drivetrain and will not hold up well under abuse. These are luxury land barges, not race cars.
