  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I didn't see anything similar, so I thought I'd ask a question. My driver's side headrest deployed (?? - not sure if it actually deploys, or it simply came apart. Either way, I can't figure out how to put it back together) and I took it to the dealer. The headrest alone was almost $800 and with installation, approaching a grand. Is it possible to put in a "universal headrest", or even a used headrest? The dealership didn't have any alternatives.

I don't typically use it but in its current deployed condition, it forces my head forward and creates a very uncomfortable ride. If this was an actually airbag, I'd go ahead and pay without comment. But a headrest that I don't typically use - doesn't appear to be a good use of money.

Any ideas / alternatives out there?

>100% markup and $200 for a literal 30 second installation?! Bunch of criminals.

Easy DIY with a pair of pliers. Reset procedure attached, which includes removal and re-installation (via retaining clip). You have to be firm with it... like get on top of it and push down with both hands firm. There is a plastic tab inside that can break off and prevent it from catching, resulting in a permanently sprung headrest. At which point get a replacement from Ebay or a local junkyard, or spend $500 for OEM new below.

OEM parts source <$500 example (there are a few variants and other vendors on line. Recommend you verify color):
