0:32 to 0:47 - Looks like a locked R spec, though I think it's a Titanium instead of the Platinum we've seen before.

It was not locked for me very nice. You still can not get the Brembo's on the sedan R Spec!!!

Yep... and that's an additional 4 grand just for parts, not including labor. However, aren't the current 4.6 OEM brakes pretty satisfactory? I'm sure they've improved the braking on all the trims (see quote) and the 5.0 will not disappoint.

To complete the (5.0 R spec) performance package, front brake rotors have increased from 13.0 inches to 13.6 inches over the 2011 4.6 model. Braking is also improved on both the 3.8 and 4.6 models; the 3.8 model front rotor size increases from 12.6 inches to 13.0 inches, while adding by higher performance 4-piston brake calipers, and the 4.6 model front brake rotors increase from 13.0 inches to 13.6 inches for greater fade resistance.

Looks like you get the same brakes, regardless of which V8 engine you choose.... Oo

The A7 was spectacular for sure! I just emailed local Hyundai dealer and asked him to make me aware of any incentives on '11 4.6 given that the new models will arriving soon. Would not mind saving $10K to give up power folding mirrors, lane avoidance, some hp, and heated rear seats. Still have a great car with the full warranty and guaranteed trade in value.

You're not kidding, Tom... you can't really argue against the sheer value of a 2011 for almost 8 grand off sticker!

I have different timeline for purchase then you likely do. My wife and I generally leave for our condo in SC early June and do not return until Labor Day. We take only one car so will likely take her Acura. I would love to be able to drive the new car down and really enjoy it but R will not likely be available before we leave. I would then have to wait until Sept. to make the purchase and not so sure I can do that. I really miss the comfort and power of my 7 and driving my dinky 1998 Ford Explorer just ain't cutting it!

I can answer questions about the car itself, if anyone has any... I spent a TON of time in it, and outside of it. For instance, I measured my 17" wing wheel covers before I went to the show, and compared to the R spec 19" wheel caps... SAME SIZE. I'm 99% sure they will fit.

I thought the piano black was really deep... but in fact, there are "wood" tones to it. I wouldn't call it a brownish black per se... but I think it was nicely done nonetheless. The outside of the car is GORGEOUS. I spent a great deal of time outside the car (and others), and this was probably the most popular in the Hyundai section.

Completely forgot to tell you guys about the Blue Link "Test Drive"!

When I got to the Hyundai display, I gave my letter to the guy at the desk, and he directed me towards a product specialist. She was really nice, and waited for both of us to sit in the front seats of the new Sonata Hybrid, and quickly locked the doors so we wouldn't be disturbed.

She had me go through a TON of features of Blue Link, and as we went thru it, she completed a survey with my opinions and comments.

First she covered the three packages available - Assurance, Essentials and Guidance. She mentioned preliminary pricing, but unfortunately, I didn't really hear her well as some doughhead in the next display was on the loudspeaker, and a random idiot came over to hit on the girl LOL. I THINK she said Assurance was gonna run $199.99 for a 2 year membership, while Essentials was gonna be $9.99 a month. Don't quote me on this. Regardless... it all seems like it's gonna run about $10 bucks a month for EACH package, and one bit of feedback she got from me was a package discount (2 or more). We'll see.

Inside the car... the system worked really well. You click a button, and the car makes a call - it took an average of 3 to 5 seconds for the system to connect, and start prompting you - I asked for a local restaurant (system gives you ratings and turn-by-turn directions), local weather (nice), traffic alerts (very nice as I was in the city) and a couple other businesses and what not. All in all, a very good system for those who don't have navigation.

She showed me the online features like when the car sends you a full diagnostic email, it will display any problems or recalls with your car on the screen, and will even let you schedule an appt to get it fixed right from the car!

The bottom line for me... if I had to choose a package, it would definitely be Essentials. If I had to choose two, it would be Essentials and Assurance. Like I said, Guidance is mostly redundant to the current Nav systems.

Alas... I told her that I was disappointed BL wouldn't be available on the 2012 Genesis, and that Hyundai should really consider using a system that can be "upgraded" via software updates. She assured me that was not currently possible, as the system was "built from the ground up with the car, and integral blah blah blah". OH WELL.

At the end of the survey, she gave me a gift:



2GB USB Flash Drive. Will go great on my keychain, along with my other keys. I'll be sure to use it in my new Genny, with my favorite songs on it

PS --> I asked about 2012 Genesis availability and she told me May/June. When I told her my dealer said September, she said AND I QUOTE:

"He's wrong. He's probably just trying to sell you what's on the lot." I laughed and agreed. She told me dealers are starting to receive the pricing info on them... though I can't get this confirmed anywhere online.

Here's my quick 2012 Genesis review!



I posted the pics above, check them out. Basically, I had very high expectations of the exterior styling, especially since I just test drove a 2010 4.6 and a 2011 3.8 a couple days ago. The new car blew me away. The current Genesis is a beautiful, classy car, but the '12's are just gorgeous! Bright silver was my least favorite of the 3 available on the R spec, but it looked really beautiful, and gave the car a very well-done look (matching wheels, body, grill, etc).

New grill waterfall effects are very well done - the grill appears bigger, not sure if it is or not. The new exhaust is very upscale - matched all the "big boys" on the other side of the car show floor.

I was disappointed that the new headlights are NOT the Korea-spec Xenon & LED ones - in other words, there are no alternating square and round LED's around the main headlight (ala Equus), as in some of the pics I've posted of the Korean version. They are still BEAUTIFUL - especially the LED "strip" - when lit, that thing is really engaging. Very very cool effect. I also liked the blinker underneath the headlight unit - very upscale.

The tail lights were also very nice - I posted a couple pictures, but they will NOT do them justice. The LED effect is really sweet, and the units look really expensive, while flowing really well with the chrome strip in the back of the gate.

The 19" wheels are beautiful. Again, pictures do not do them justice (this is a theme for the whole car, really). I measured the wheel caps, and they are the exact same size as the 17"s I purchased. GOOD SIGN.

The engine is what it is. Plastic covers on EVERYTHING (as is now customary on all cars), but the engine itself is impressive. When I popped the hood, a little crowd gathered. One guy said, "whoa, that's a V8?" So I answered, "Yep... that is one of two V8 engines. This one is a 5 Liter, 429 HP beast." You should've seen the look on their faces when I told them, LOL.

Inside the car, there are really no changes. I didn't see a difference in the seats from the 4.6 at all, and the piano black had these wooden tones to it - I thought from the pics that it was a flat, deep black, but that is not the case. Because of this, I think the wooden steering wheel from Korea might actually be a nice addition as aftermarket for those of us who like to customize. In the back, the heated seat controls in the center armrest were really the only difference I noticed from the 4.6. Hyundai needs to start calling the interior color "Charcoal", because it is not black. It is still beautiful though, and probably makes the car appear bigger inside than if it was just black.

Regardless, I went into the show knowing there was a 5% chance of me picking up a 2011, but now, I just don't see it happening - the exterior styling made it one of the nicest looking big cars on the whole show floor (I may be biased, of course).

Interesting comment about the charcoal interior color. I had to ask the rep at the show if the interior was being referred to as jet black and she said it was. Certainly looked dark grey to me. Going to look at a '11 black/black today with expectation of making the deal. Decided to save the money and not wait for the '12.

Thank you, Ruissimo, for the great posts concerning the show. Is it safe for me to assume when looking at your photos that the exterior color of the car on display was platinum? If so, are you starting to waiver on your choice of color?

You are correct... platinum. AND YES.



Now I am completely torn - I like all three!!! Wish I was a rich man, then I could buy one of each: Platinum for the sunny days at the beach, Black for going out in the evening, and Titanium for all the rest.

I'll make the final decision at the dealership. Any one of them will look amazing. It's May 2nd. I was promised cars on lots.

I love the look of a black car. Had one in the past and don't want to own a black car again, too much labor to keep it looking nice. Silver and white are so much more practical.

A full set of Brembos will run you $4k+

I don't know about you.... but to me, the brake performance improvement is not worth the money. That's just me.

I think people look at the coupe which has a model that comes with Brembo's. Not a stretch to include on the R-spec.
