  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am seconds away from pulling the trigger on buying a less than 5k mileage 2011 Equus Signature. The deal is almost completely done. However there is a 2012 Equus Signature with a few thousand more miles on it, but $4,000 more expensive, and in a completely different state. In otherwords, a real pain in the butt, and I have to start all over, not to mention more expensive. Is there a giant difference between the 2011 and 2012 engine? Will I be kicking myself if I buy the 2011 because I didnt spend more and get the 2012?

BTW any other hidden things I should consider about 2011 vs 2012?

Thanks!

I like the 2011 4.6 that is not GDI. However the 2012 has the 5.0 GDI which delivers 429hp and the 2011 4.6 has 385hp. FYI -Some of the 5.0 GDI engines are using a lot of oil.

I was offered a brand new 2012 last week for 45K. I didn't buy because they really low balled my trade and the so called valet service on a new Equus is really strange. I travel a lot. Last year I spent 7 months in PA, 2 months in Texas and 3 months in St. Petersburg, FL. I called the Equus hot line and found that there is no corporate policy regarding valet service. They did offer to give me telephone numbers of dealers so I could call them and ask if they wanted to service my new Equus. IMO These folks are not ready for prime time yet.

When the salesman was here picking up my Equus for an oil change he was on the phone with another customer who had purchased an Equus from him and had a problem while several hundred miles away. The salesman made all of the arrangements for pickup and delivery of a loaner through another dealer. He told me if I ever have a problem even if I'm in another state to call him and he'd take care of it.

Richard: It is nice that your salesperson fixed the customer's problem. My point is that the problem should not exist given Equus advertising valet service.

My 2011 was struck by lightning and replaced with a 2012 so I have had both model years. The differences are the engine size (5.0l, 429 hp vs 4.6l, 385 hp), 8-speed vs. 6 speed transmission and the deletion of the rear side window sun shade on the 2012. The 2012 also gives you 1 mpg less fuel efficiency. Personally, I could not tell the difference in performance, styling, ride quality between the two model years.

Even tho the 2012 is $4k more, it's resale value down the road would be higher so the differential is probably not that great. However, I would go with the 2011.

You didn't mention colors, but that might be a consideration as well.

My point is that the valet service was provided even though the car was several hundred miles away from the selling dealer and would be if the car was several thousand miles away from the dealer.

I'm calling BS. Hyundai representatives told me in no uncertain terms that valet service was totally a dealer option. I could call local dealers in PA, Florida and Texas and ASK if they would provide valet service. Hyundai has NO corporate policy demanding valet service from the nearest dealer! Pray tell, who should I complain to if a dealer says no way?

You're wrong on several counts. Valet service is corporate policy within 100 miles of your selling dealer for starters. Loaners, which I think is the real topic here, are promised to be a Gen or Equus. Again, corporate and not up to the dealer. If you break down nowhere near an Equus dealer (not all Hyundai's are) you may be at their mercy. These things are in writing and easily searchable.

I'm sorry if my post came off as being confrontational, that was not my intention. If you have a on-line source regarding valet service, could you please provide a link? I was just repeating the information I was given by the Equus help/information telephone service. The Hyundai rep I spoke with was adamant about there being no company policy regarding non-seller dealer service. After that conversation, I never even tried to negotiate better numbers with the dealer. If you are correct, perhaps I should renegotiate. Given my lifestyle, valet service, or lack thereof, is extremely important.

So I want to make sure I understand the valet service clearly. I am buying this 2011 Equus 'new' from a dealer that is out of state. And I live 60 miles from the nearest Equus dealer. If I call that 60 mile away dealer, and tell them to come pick up my car for an oil change, will they do it? Or will they say "You didnt buy it here, so you will have to bring the car in yourself." Thanks.
