  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 5.0 blown motor

I think it's pretty obvious that it's your approach in explaining something to him (and to the guy in this thread) that makes you look bad and garners these types of comments.

Here's how the audio question should've been answered by a polite, helpful individual:

"Hey, I believe the stated manufacturer output is X watts, but in my experience this number can be deceiving because stated specs for automobile audio equipment aren't regulated by the FTC like home equipment is. Here's a technical explanation if you're interested: <insert Mark's explanation>.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I have a lot of experience with this stuff."

The tone you took was immediately dismissive and a turnoff to a newer member who's not familiar with your "style" of communication. I think you already know this though and it's just part of your character on this forum.

Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled programming: "Don't call it a motor you redneck racing fan! It'll get your warranty claim denied."
There was nothing wrong with my original answer.

The reason he is bitching is that he ridiculed and insulted me first for not telling him the "output" (which I did not know, and no one else knew), and then after he insulted me, I implied that the original question was stupid.

...you concluded from the OP's comment in this thread about a "motor" that he's a "motor sports fan."...
It wasn't just that he said the words "blown motor" but that he also said he was shifting in manual mode, working it hard, up near the redline. It was those two together.

I never knew that saying someone was a serious motorsport fan, or even a race car driver, is an insult.

Although I speculated that deepcolor is a motorsport fan or maybe races his car, I have offered to retract my "speculation" and apologize if he tells me I am wrong.

My 09 4.6 motor starting shaking like a truck and the dealership said it needs to be replaced. They want to use the extended warrantee and put a used engine which does not go over well with me. Any thoughts on my rights, i.e. different year new engine or new car?

Are you the original owner? Does it have less than 100K miles? If so, it should be fixed under the Hyundai 10 year - 100K mile drivetrain warranty. Not sure if that makes any difference, except maybe if there is a deductible on the extended warranty.

I don't know what your rights are under the extended warranty. Maybe you need to read the terms. Normally, they have the right to fix/rebuild your existing engine for any warranty, but I personally would not want that for the condition you have (which has been reported by many with the 2009 4.6 engine). I would probably go for a used engine with reasonable mileage, if it were built in mid-2010 or later. I would avoid any 4.6 engine that came from another 2009 or early build date for 2010.

There is no way they can put the 5.0 V8 (which is only V8 made after 2012) in your car without replacing the transmission, ECU, emissions system, etc, so that is a non-starter. The new 5.0 engine is a GDI (gasoline direct injection), so almost everything would need to be replaced (which isn't go to happen).

working it hard in manual and getting up near the red line rpm's on the freeway the other day and all of a sudden i hear and feel a thud and lose power. look in the rear view mirror and see a huge plume of smoke. no power. coasted off the freeway down the off ramp and ran out of "roll" in the right lane. turned hazards on and got out.

AAA arrived quickly and said there is a huge puddle of motor oil under the car. i hear the 5.0 2012 had some issues so i'm sure this could be related. the car has only 26k miles on her and i just did a oil change with the dealer and they also checked on a check engine light recently.

at ant rate, the car is certified and i will be getting a loaner - sonata- tues. i asked the guy why nothing comparable ?? he said only the equis owners get the genesis. ok whatever. seems unfair but what are you going do.

sounds like the motor blew but will find out more in a few days.

Im glad i came across this but literally the same exact thing happened to me. I aggressively drive my genesis and on my way from home i mashed on it and it was like everything shut down and all the oil leak as well. Dealer told me it was a internal failure and replaced the engine for free under warranty. I also wasnt over my oil change mileage. I run synthetic oil and change oil every 3000 miles now. Hopefully this doesnt ever happen again. I also have a 2012 5.0 rspec
