2012 5.0 Rspec ........ She dead....... For now

Looks like My 2012 R-Spec will be getting a new heart soon, hopefully courtesy of Hyundai and the extended warranty I thankfully purchased. I was driving home from work the other night and started hearing that distinct knocking sound coming from the bottom end of the engine. Checked the oil level and it was fine, even after 4k miles since the last oil change (woohoo for not being plagued by the 5.0 oil burning issues I have read about). I drove my wifes car for the past couple of days until I could get the Genny to the nearest dealer today, got the call back about an hour ago and the service person told me "1 or more bearings are spun and the engine needs to be replaced". The car only has 88,300 miles on her and I have only owned it for the past 8k miles. So now I get to wait until at the earliest Monday evening when Fidelity can get an inspector to the car.

I think there was a problem with a particular engine part that caused the oil consumption and engine failure problems. For those early 2012 5.0 engines, I don't think one is immune just because their engine is not consuming oil.

According to what HMA told one forum member who had his engine replaced, the replacement engines were somehow different than his original engine, and they were sure the replacement would not have the same problems as his original engine.

Little bit of a late reply, The extended warranty company did replace the engine, unfortunately it was with a used one with 66K miles on it. The dealer did not say they knew why it died that early, spun bearing is usually caused by oil starvation and when I got home the oil level was fine. But I searched for almost a week for another spun bearing issue but could not find another 5.0 with the issue so I'm hoping just a shit luck anomaly.

It may have been a design or assembly problem, but there are other possible reasons. The present owner bought it with 80,000 miles, but was it driven by a little old lady going to church on Sunday or a teenager that raced it every weekend? When we were younger, if my brother was selling a car you'd want to snatch it up because it looked so good. The engine though, probably has 4X the wear of any other car with the same miles. He had the fastest car in school, proven by many drag races.
