  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The occasional hard (read violently hard) shifts seem to have caused some play in the rear axle or CV/half-shafts. I originally thought it was just a minor click of the brake or hub after having the brakes serviced at Hyundai.
The sound is getting louder and to the point that I am afraid during a violent up-shift or downshift it may just break completely.

Any Hyundai Genesis Sedan Techs that know what I need to look for?

I know that the original transmission issue is the result of one or more failing solenoids.

Crawl under it and check the driveshaft coupler.

I checked under the car and the clank is coming from the mid propeller shaft bearing area. It difficult to see because of the exhaust pipes and shields in that area. I am guessing that I need a new mid-shaft bearing.

I brought the car to a transmission shop to check the rear axle and propeller shaft. The raised the car up and could here the clank when having the car in neutral and rotating a tire back and forth. The guy at the shop said that they all make that noise and not to worry about it. He did notice that the propeller shaft coupler is showing some cracks in the rubber.

I would try another shop. That has never been normal in my experience.

A cracked driveshaft coupler should be replaced (common). Check and replace the mid-shaft bearing as needed (common). Also check for excessive lash in the diff (rare).

any updates on this ? checked out my couplers and they are shot as well i need to replace on my rspec . looks like it should be the same part for front and rear can anyone confirm?

Unfortunately the car was totaled in a highway accident earlier this year.
The hard shifting typically points to a shift solenoid or more than one. Unfortunately, doing any repairs on the transmission requires the dealer to reprogram the trans and that can be costly. Better to just live with it.

CONFIRM! I went and got the dorman 935-107 for my Genesis sedan rspec and worked out perfect for the front and the rear. brand new couplers make a huge difference car over all feels so much smoother during specially during shifts and hard acceleration.

Good deal. Did the bolts have reverse thread on them?
