  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys I recently had my trans fluid changed on my 2012 5.0L V8 Genesis Sedan at Fitzgerald Hyundai of Clearwater

The receipt I received shows part number 00232-19015 ATF 6HP ZF FLUID. This is the fluid they put in.

It was my understanding the 2012 5.0 didnt have a ZF transmission and required SP-IV-RR Hyundai fluid... is this correct? Did they put the wrong fluid in? And if they did and it ruins my transmission, would they be liable to replace it?

You do not have a ZF transmission if you have the 5.0 rspec
I would call them back ASAP to confirm what they did
if there is any question, take it back in and make them do 1 or 2 transmission drain/fills with the correct fluid.

yes the dealer is liable, but you will need a lawyer.

Please post a follow up on how the stealership resolved your issue. I have a 2012 3.8L with the 8 speed that requires the SP-IV-RR ( part# 00232-19052) transmission fluid and want to have it changed. I would like to do it myself but can't find the fluid or an equivalent. How much did they charge? I'm in Palm Harbor and was thinking about using Fitzgerald.

Update:

Dealer called me after a very nasty survey and admitted fault that they put the wrong fluid in. Service Director says they are going to do a transmission flush to replace the fluid. I am worried about this because I have heard of horror stories doing a full flush. But I suppose if it breaks it should be on them to replace it...

....just one flush won't remove it all & being that the filter is built into the pan , I would demand a new pan also...

Red Line Synthetic Oil. Automatic Transmission Fluids

...did my 09 4.6 V8 with the D6 ATF and no issues......and used the D4 ATF on my 04 Toyota Sienna also...
the 2009, 2010. 2011 have different transmissions - completely different than the 2012-2014 so please do not recommend the same fluids as it will be a bad day if anyone uses the same. Honestly only use the HYUNDAI fluid for 2012 - 2014 8 speed transmissions

Update: flush was performed and at first it was very rough and slipping like hell but a few days later and it seems to have smoothed out considerably. Its at a very tolerable level now and feeling good. Crossing my fingers it stays this way.

What type of flush did they do? And how much was it?

Dunno man I assume they just pumped fluid through the cooler til it came out all new. Then they reset the transmission computer.

And it was free because they messed up and put the wrong fluid in for my drain and fill
