  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 Daytime Running Lights (DRL) - Disabling or Modifying

WHY CAN’T YOU PEOPLE JUST ANSWER THE MANS QUESTION. IT IS SO ANNOYING THAT YOU ALL HAVE TO PUT IN YOUR OWN OPINION ON LAWS AND SUCH AND CAN NOT JUST TELL HIM HOW TO DO IT! IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW THEN WRITE NOTHING!
SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!
Totally agree. For every person who posts crap to just see themselves talk, stop. You are a waste of time. Having to sort through pages of useless info from lonely moronic posters really sucks when attempting to get help from those who are thoughtful in their replies.

Absolutely. Especially when it it so easy to block them out with duct tape.

PMCErnie trolled this thread so I started another with the specific request for constructive info only to disable DRLs. PMCErnie trolled that thread in no time. I looked at his stats/replies. He is incapable of providing anything but commentary from mom's basement as his innate reading and comprehension abilities leave much to be desired. Thank God for "ignore" option. Poof the moron disappeared. Hope you are enjoying your Genny Piepurr!

Old thread but hopefully someone can help. I just got a 2012 Genesis sedan a couple weeks ago and the DRL's don't work. My high beams work when you flash them or turn them on. Is it possible someone programmed them off in the computer? I also saw some people saying the front turn signal was the DRL. If anyone can help with a definite answer on how to get my DRLs working I'd appreciate it.

Simple enough. Just park facing a glass store front and view your reflection. Your DRL lamps are your high beam bulbs, but operating at half brightness, I think.

When you turn on your headlights (night or in garage) you will see that the “frosted” accent lights that you probably think are your DRLs will light up. These lights are NOT the DRLs - they are not bright enough to serve that job. Still, they are beautiful at night.

This is how I verified that my DRLs are not working and I understand that the LED strips only come on with the headlights. I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to code the lamp module so the DRLs don't turn on as a possible cause for my DRLs to not be working even though the high beams work fine. I'm also trying to find out if on a 2012 the DRL is the low wattage element in the front turn signal or if it is the high beam bulbs because I've found conflicting info on this forum as to what is illuminated on the 2012+ cars. Google searches keep bringing me back to this forum so if someone with a 2012+ can verify for me what is supposed to light up for the DRL I'd really appreciate it.

I’ve already told you that the ‘12 DRL is the high beam bulb at a reduced brightness. Beyond that I can’t help you.

When a turn signal is activated the appropriate side’s DRL temporarily turns off as the amber turn signal blinks. Therefore, some circuitry does turn off that specific front DRL temporarily.

AGAIN, your DRLs are NOT your front turn signals. They are your high beam bulbs.

On the 2009-2011 models the US version lacked DRL, but they were standard on Canadian versions (that's reason for fuse). Not sure about KDM version.

A lot of members with 2009-2012 US versions complained about not having DRL, and now in 2012 some want to get rid of them. Definitely cannot please everyone.
You can please everyone by giving them a choice to use them or not, There are instance where you really need to turn them off. Or at least, for some of us. Maybe not you particularly. Don't you like choices though?

In most counties they are mandatory.

Most of the world has adapted to DRL’s. Put your car in park and they will probably shut off. When you put it in drive the will turn on just like they need to do.

My 2012 Genesis sedan DRLs are on even when in park. That is really the only time I would want to turn them off.

How about when you put on the parking brake?

I didn't try that but I will. Thanks for the suggestion.

AMEN!!!

In most counties they are mandatory.
But not on private property. There's an astronomy site in Texas that requires vehicles driving onto the field to completely extinguish all lights for one person to preserve everyone's night views.
