  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just found a major error in my navigation system on my 2012.

The map version is 3.00.00.2011.05.27.00.

When attempting to navigate from Aransas Pass, TX to the edge of Port Aransas, TX (edge of Corpus Christi) the system does not know there is a ferry operating, so while the correct distance is 12.5 miles, it wants to route me around Corpus Christi on a 50.3 mile jaunt.

When I cross the bridge before the ferry, the nav finally figures out there's a ferry operating and then correctly routes me.

I called the Equus hotline today and they said there is a new version done 10/2012 (Ver 5) that should correct the issue. They advised me to contact a dealer and get the new software. I asked if they would reimburse me for the cost, since the software was clearly defective. The hotline rep said that she "thought" they would, but couldn't commit to this since the software is purchased from a vendor, but she did give me the customer support email address so I could submit my request.

Of further interest is the fact that there is no guarantee that the issue will be addressed by the new map update.

Has anyone else had there maps replaced and had the update covered by Hyundai? Any suggestions on how to get a definitive answer before I just update the software.

Also, who is the vendor for the map software / maps?

BTW, my cheap Garmin, which I brought along as a backup unit, correctly maps the destination.

Other than this, the car is great. Just did a 1000 mile road trip and first two tanks averaged 25-26 mpg, with last tank with more city driving and into heavier wind at 21 mpg.

12/4/12 update: I called Mapnsoft today and asked them if an update to the current maps would cure the issue. The rep politely explained that he could not verify that it would. He did say that Hyundai buys the maps from Navteq and suggested I check with them. I looked for a phone # on their site and didn't find one, so if I have time to chase this further, I'll do so.

Re: 2012 Equus Navigation Update

The web site for Equus Nav updates is now reporting that the following is available for 2011-2012 models (but not 2013):

v5 North America Map Update for Equus (wheel control) - 6D01 MAP UPDATES ON SALE FOR $99.00 *Additional installation cost not included for Equus and Genesis models (Available at your local Hyundai Dealer Only)

https://www.mapnsoft.com/us/hyundai/search_ok.asp

Other Hyundai model owners can apparently update maps with a direct download and purchase of an authentication code. I suppose the update is done with a thumb drive via the USB port (but that's only a guess). But that route is apparently not available to Genesis and Equus owners.

Has anyone out there purchased this update?

My 2011 nav is rife with errors and was from day one. It's horrid. I can't believe they are charging $99 to upgrade; I can buy a Garmin with lifetime updates for less!

99.00 is not bad. Mercedes charges 249.00 and my Hyundai Nav is 100% better than my Mercedes.

Here's an update on my 2012 Equus update to V5 software for anyone interested.

My system was updated and I picked up the car this weekend. Before I left the dealer, I went into the system to see the version number installed in the unit. It is now Ver 03.00.00 2012.04.14.01.

I went back and talked to the Equus Tech and explained my concern that this is V5 software, but the system shows ver 03.....he stated that the upgrade went fine, and showed me the box of disks with the correct part number and vintage.

I then called map n soft and discussed this with their rep. The rep explained that the V5 software designation does not have anything to do with the "ver 03.00" in my car. It IS the newest update. The next update will be V6.

I then went to the 2013 Equus the dealer had on the floor and verified it has the same number shown in the second paragraph, above.

Bottom line: still testing. The destination entry sequence remains state-street-city.

I explained this all to the tech and service writer before I left, with my wallet $264 shorter.

FYI.....I will be using the voice command workaround.
