  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis is not even at 6k and I already have a check engine light, just wanted to see if anyone else ran into something like this. It's a 2012 3.8 Prem/Tech. The dealers in my area are a pain so i wanted to get some info before I showed up.

Tried powering down the car and back on, got full tank of gas now, it showed up when I was at 1/4. The car seems to drive exactly like it did before the light came in, no beeping, no warning messages, just the yellow check engine sign.

I would think performance would be diminished but it drives exactly the same!

Get it to the dealer asap. The engine light could be a hundred different things. The dealer has to find out by plugging into the cars systems.

Don't delay getting it diagnosed. As I found out with my 2009, the diagnostic codes in the ECU disappear after so many engine re-starts.

the dealer I went to last time doesn't diagnose on the weekends, I'm going to take it to my mechanic just to read the code and see what's up.

Gas cap on correctly. Don't these things get a CEL when the cap isn't on just right?:welcome:

unfortunately the light came up when the tank was nearly empty, before the fill up. I will check the cap just in case anyway.

Unless your local mechanic has the newest equipment, he may not be able to run a thorough diagnosis. The dealer will not charge you anything since it is a new car.

Yes. Go to the dealer. Why get someone else involved at this time?

Modern ECU's record many things and I wouldn't be surprised if they can tell that somebody else has connected to the diagnostic port. Wait until the dealer can fit you in. It is unlikely that anything serious will happen in the meantime, although as I stated before, too many re-starts will override some fault codes.

I think you guys are overly paranoid. Nobody has ever voided a warranty for checking a diagnostic code, dealers in my area are all closed on the weekend and weekdays I work. I can't just take a day off to take my car to a dealer either.

Well, $10 later the code seems to be something with a solenoid. I was told it's not fatal.

The first thing the guys asked me, did I fill up the car with the engine turned on. Never did that.

On the bright side, as soon as I pulled in to the left all 4 doors were open and around 8 people were practically staring at the car head to toe.

They decided to play a practical joke on the receptionist, told her it was the new Lexus. She came out and said that it's just a Bentley and she's not stupid.

Dealer visit it is.

this happened to me in another vehicle.. let's see what they say

something wrong with the solenoid...or are you waiting for an official dealer response?

7,500 miles here and my check engine light came on. Brought it to dealer. They are conversing with Hyundai corporate to try to figure out a fix. They have been working on it for 5 days now. Still unsure what is causing the check engine light to keep coming on.

I guess I better get a dealer where I can get a loaner...

could be vent solenoid.. If it sticks gas does not vent when you shut the engine off. When you open the gas tank you will hear a hissing sound until the tank vents. Under operation the gas tank is pressurized, when you shut it off it vents. The vent is normally back by the charcoal canister beside the gas tank. On my truck out of warranty I fixed myself the part cost $180...

My check engine light came on at 8,000 miles on my 2012, Genesis 3.8. This is now my 4th time back to the dealer for the same problem. On third visit they finally replaced a valve, and then the light came back on in about 10 miles.

ARRRGH!

It might be just a coincedance. May have nothing to do with amount of fuel you got in the tank. Do you get lights everytime you are at 1/4 tank? :p

When I first read your thread title I thought you meant engine light at 6000 rpm... lmao. On my F-Sport Lexus IS350, my instrumental gauges light up pretty (orange and red) depending on the speed and rpm it gets up to. This is hot stuff.. I've just got past 1000 miles on my 2011 IS350. Never been driven in the rain, snow, dust, no nothing.... the queen sits in the garage.

As for your Check Engine Light problem with your Gennie, maybe something got plugged up your air filter? It can be anything and trigger it to engine warning light. Yes young kid, take it to your HYUNDAI dealership during business days, not some mechanics that are not Hyundai certified.

Rule #1: News cars to go to the dealership. Use the warranty and get it checked out professionaly, by Hyundai geeks. Got it?

;)

first of all, i'm not a young kid and I will obviously let the dealer do free guaranteed work vs paying a random mechanic. The only reason I went is because all the dealers are closed for diagnostics on sat-sun and I had them read the code to me.

As far as the light, no, it does not always light up at 1/4 (stupid question).

Haven't had the chance to visit the dealer yet, after the holidays I guess.
