  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 Genesis has a intermitting starting problem, losing all electrical power. The car has to be unlocked manually, will not start with key fob inserted. I can open and close drivers door and sometime the car will start. I have also pulled and reinserted the 50amp fuse near the battery to start. The battery is only 6 months old. I have noticed on some attempts to start, I hear a click (possible from starter) and a pulsing sound like a fuse has blown. I'm new to this Forum, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I love me Genesis, but I'm getting frustrated with the intermitting problem starting. Could this possibly be a problem with security system?

Generally, when you hear a clicking noise when trying to start the car (and it won't start), the battery is severely discharged. This can occur on the Genesis due to several reasons, including:

1. There is a rubber bumper for the hood that is used to detect when the hood is closed. If the bumper is missing, or not working, then the car thinks the hood is open and the battery can discharge (I don't know exactly why Hyundai is using power when hood is open).

2. Sometimes the trunk is not closed properly, even though it looks closed, and trunk light will drain the battery. Spray some graphite spray lube (or WD-40 if graphite not available, and then open and close the trunk many times to lubricate it (on the trunk it self and when it latches).

3. Sometimes there is a ground that is loose, and needs to be tightened. It can occur at multiple locations, but search this forum for more info.

But first, to verify that the battery is drained, you can test it with a volt meter. If you don't have a volt meter, ask a friend for help. A fully charged car battery should measure 12.6 volts outside of the car, and slightly less if installed (there is always some load on an installed battery).
