  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Notice after getting my new Genesis that the back of the passenger seat shakes while driving. Didn't say anything to dealership until I got back from trip from NC to GA to see how it was on the open road versus around town driving. Irritating! Anything I put in the seat on the trip home would shake and vibrate from the seat.

Took it to the dealer the next morning. They could see the problem. Mechanic said "operating within normal limits." Claimed he drove another Genesis and it did the same thing Don't buy it because dealer only had 2 mechanics working that day and one was rebuilding an engine and that was his only project for the day.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any possible solutions or options?

Have the balance of the tires checked.

I suggested that could be the cause but I can guarantee about 100% that that was not checked as I requested. Car not out of alignment from what I can tell. Just called to make appointment.

One interesting note from my last visit - when girl who checked me out told me that the tech could find nothing wrong, I said "let's go drive it." We were barely out of the parkling lot when she saw it and recorded the video on her cell phone. She took it back when we returned to the dealership and showed it to the tech. He claimed he drove another one and it did the same thing. Yeah, right!

Time for Belinda the Bulldog to come out!

Yes, lots of people have reported that their dealers are jerks. Best option is to try another dealer (you can get warranty service at any dealer). If that doesn't work, then try contacting HMA and file a complaint.

Sorry, but what I was referring to was had any one else had the shaking seat problem? If this appt doesn't resolve the problem at dealer. I will file complaint with HMA. In a rural area and next closest dealer is 30-45 mins away.

Yes, I knew what you were referring to, but I decided to get down to the root cause of your situation. If your dealer says other cars do the same thing, then take a test drive of one and see if he is lying.

My passanger seat does the same thing over bumps. However I got used to it since my 09 accord did the exact same thing. There is no noise, but I do notice the back rest moving more than I would like.

I have seen mine shake on occasion, as well, though have never heard noise unless in had something in the seat, e.g. CD cases rubbing together.

This is just a guess, but check to see if your tires aren't inflated to some ridiculously high pressure. If they are, then more vibrations would be transferred to your interior making the seat shake even over small bumps. Someone posted somewhere that when he picked up his car from the dealer, the tires were inflated to 60 psi (he claimed that this is the pressure at which dealerships get it from the factory).

If items are bouncing off the seat then I would also suggest checking the tire pressure. It should be in the 32 to 34 psi range. If you do not have a tester go to any auto parts store like Auto Zone. Poster is correct. Hyundai fills them high for shipping.

My Isuzu truck did that when the tires were out of balance. Is there no other noticeable vibration?

Does it change if you change the angle of the seat? I'd definitely get he wheels rebalanced. It's quite possible they were misbalanced at factory. Dealer should correct it right away.

Things aren't bouncing on the seat. They just shake with the seat. I adjusted the seat as if I was going to be sitting in it all the time. No difference.

I will check the tire pressure. I will also make sure that dealer checks the balancing and rebalances them. I think that is what it is. The mechanic (IMHO) gave a bunch of BS when he told the service desk he test drove another car and it is within "normal limits." I like the advice of asking to drive the one he claims he test drives if he claims that again.

Yea tire pressure won't affect it. But if you go in there and ask to have the tires rebalanced, THEY should, as Nike says, JUST DO IT without any problems. You can stand there and watch them do it and see that they are in need of adjustment, and that is what they should do for you, as the purchaser of a $40K+ car from them. They should not have to be asked twice.

Thanks, QR. I will let you know how it turns out.

My passenger seat shakes like a paint can mixer. No car if perfect especially at this price.

Maybe if the car was a Yugo or Hyundai's old Excel, but asking for a car to ride smoothly and seats not to shake is something I totally expect for this car! Otherwise I should have stuck to my $20k Toyota Camry.

Sounds like you need to get your car checked out too!

Tires have been balanced. Shop Foreman called after driving it and asked me about it before balancing. Kept talking about how the seat will shake if I hit a pot hole. Told me I understood that, but that this was happening all the time, and heaven forbid, I hit a pothole! Picking it up soon. We will see....
