If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone,

Recently bought a 2012 genesis 4.6L, and I have been overwhelmingly happy with the car, but there is one issue I have noticed. The transmission shifts exceptionally slow. I can understand why it would shift slow in regular drive mode, but even when in sport mode, when I tap to either up-shift or downshift, it takes upwards of 1.5 seconds to actually shift. Because of this reason I almost never use sport mode. Even in drive, if I full press the throttle, it takes about 1.5 seconds before it registers that I've put the pedal down and actually shifts. Is this a fault of my transmission or is there something I'm missing? Is it possible I need some sort of software update for my transmission? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

Welcome to the forum.

1. You may have actual issue with your transmission
or
2. It is the normal behavior of the "nanny" (ECM -Electronic Control Module) that controls your 8-speed transmission shifting.

I have 2011 Genesis 4.6 and ZF 6-speed transmission and also was not happy with the down-shifting. I fixed the problem by installing Sprint Booster.

I am sure other folks with 8-speed transmission will chime in.

I assume you meant a sprint booster and not spring booster, but unfortunately either way this would not fix my issue. The issue I'm facing is that the transmission has a very long lag when it shifts between gears, not throttle response.

Yes, I meant Sprint Booster. I corrected that.

In this case you need to go to the dealership to diagnose the problem.

...or a good transmission shop that can do the Hyundai 8 speed trans.

I don't understand. If you don't have the 8 speed auto transmission that came in my car, then why did you recommend me a solution that you had to a completely different issue for a different transmission? And then your advice to me is to go to the dealership? If you have no idea the answer to my question I would rather you just tell me.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Pretty sure that wasn't aimed at me...

My car shifts in about 3/4 sec, so yeah 1.5 seems high for a 2012 4.6. Absent going to a professional with a GDS that can talk to the TCM, your options are limited. You might be able to check & adjust the fluid level on your own (assuming that's a possible culprit):

Apologies, I meant to reply to the other guy that suggested something about a tuner for his 6 speed.
