  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just bought on Tuesday a 2012 Genesis 3.8 with 25k miles. Last night we went to the coffee shop, got coffee, came out to the car and the car went haywire. It wouldn't start but all the lights and started flashing and going crazy. I called Hyundai roadside service for a jump and they came out and jumped it. The front headlights weren't right and the two truck said that the batter just needed to charge. also the lights on the gear shift didn't turn on. I decided that I needed to get home and based on what the two truck guy said passed it off as the battery needing charging. Proceeded to drive home (76 miles) and as I was driving the headlights started going brighter and dimmer and then there as a pop, the instrument panel lights came on so I pulled over immediately. Everything seemed fine so I proceeded home. When I arrived home I noticed the headlights were still weren't right. I went in the car and the genesis logo was on the nav system. We didn't touch it so not sure how that when to that screen. I turned the car off and it was completely dead, the only thing that would come on was the overhead light. No instrument lights, just the interior and completely dead. It was already midnight and so decided to go to bed and check in the morning. Locked it via the fob and went to bed. Went out this morning and the fob doesn't open the doors so had to use the key. The care is completely dead, no lights, no nothing. Typically I would think this is battery, but based on the jump I'm not sure anymore. Has anyone had a similar experience or have any ideas what it can be. Since I've only had the car five days they are going to obviously fix it, but I'm stumped.

Bad ground connections are the source of a lot strange indications. There have been a considerable number of posts verifying it. Of course this is something the dealer should address. A lot of times It can be fairly difficult to find the exact connection causing the problem. It is common for the repair shop to assert that they found it but that’s not always the case. Check carefully after repair and make note of what was found.

Had the same symptoms with my 2012 Genesis 3.8L this weekend with the crazy flashing lights and not starting. Strangely I am at 28K miles similar to the op. The car jump started just fine, but the headlights and interior displays continued to slightly flicker. Roadside Assistance (not Hyundai) put a meter on the battery and said it was fine. Took it to the dealer today, and it was indeed an almost dead battery. They said it was putting out about 1/7 the amount of amps it should. The new battery was discounted, as the old one still had prorated value. Drove several places this afternoon, and the problem is solved.

Bad Battery or bad ground wire connection in trunk going from battery to floor of trunk. Make sure ground connection to battery and trunk floor is tight with no corrosion.

Our 2012 Genny battery died not more than a year and a half after we bought the car new in July of 2011. Replaced under warranty.
NO problems since.

My battery in my 2012 died today as well at 36K miles. A cell went bad and made the dash go haywire. Does not speak well of the quality of the Korean battery. Oddly it would not jump from the trunk. Had to use the terminals under the hood. Roadside gave me a jump and the the Dealer said a replacement would be $125. Once I got the bill it jumped to $165. Took a bit of arguing to get them to honor the original estimate. The manager claimed they screwed up the prorating. Took close to 3.5 hours between Roadside and getting a new battery. If I had know it was going to be a hassle I would have went to Walmart....

^ Lol. Hyundais are notorious for terrible batteries. I worked there for 2 years and there wasn't a single car that wouldn't die sitting on the lot. As a matter of fact, we would (and they still do) replace every Equus battery before they deliver the car to the customer. It is a sad state really. Should have saved you some time and money and gone to Walmart or Autozone lol

I HAD NEW BATTERY INSTALLED AFTER NUMEROUS STRANGE ELECTRICAL ODD STUFF PLUS STILL WOULD NOT START. DEALER HAS THE CAR, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER THIS AFTERNOON. REASON I REPLACED BATTERY, DEALER SAID THAT MY CURRENT BATTERY WAS BAD, BUT IT WAS ONLY A YEAR OLD. AWAITING WHAT DEALER DETERMINES THE ELECTRLICAL ERRATIC BEHAVIOR. ITS A 2015 GENESIS WITH 110,000 MILES WITH WRAP COVERAGE TO 120000 MILES. ITS NOT THE BATTERY, HOPEFULLY DEALER CAN LOCATE PROBLEM
