If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi guys, I just joined this forum. I just purchased a 2012 genesis 3.8l sedan with tech package. The vehicle is amazing and drives great but this is my first hyundai so I figure I'd ask you guys for help.

I put the A/C on "low" on manual mode and recirculate on, when I start the car after it's been sitting for a couple hours...the a/c takes very long to cool. But I noticed when I rev the car it starts to cool.

I just returned from the dealer and they said they couldn't duplicate the issue but saw a bulletin and went ahead and replaced "Pulley and disc hub assembly". However, when driving back home on the highway the ac was working excellent, but half way home the vents started throwing our ambient temp and the freezing air went away. Of course, if i put the car on neutral and rev it the cold will come back.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this the way this car is? Does it sense the air was too cold and closes the cold air for a while?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Hyundai can't find the issue, and i am wondering if there is an issue at all.

Side note, my battery was dead a couple weeks ago and I charged it with a tender. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything, but thought I'd add.

In humid climates when the A/C is on full it is common for ice to build up on the system. Ice will eventually block the airflow so the system shuts off momentarily to let the ice melt.

If revving the engine restores the cold airflow then I think the trouble is with the belt/pulley or there is something amiss with the compressor.

Thank you, I was speaking with my neighbor which is a mechanic and he told me he thinks it's the "magnetic stater" which is a part of the compressor.

I don't know at this point, but it's very annoying to have to accelerate to cool the car.

I would try auto mode, and adjust the temp as desired.

This sounds totally plausible. My first guess was a problem with the compressor clutch. My hunch is that the clutch is getting its signal to engage, but there is some intermittent mechanical problem that causes it not to engage. I don't know an easy way to test it except to go totally medieval.

You could put some temporary jumper wires at the compressor clutch and feed them inside the car to a multimeter. Then, watch the needle jump as the clutch cycles. If it gets hot, but the needle says the clutch is getting volts, then you know exactly where the problem is. However, if it gets hot but the needle says no volts, then the problem is in the A/C control.

No, this is not common.

I probably said that incorrectly.

It is common for ice to form in humid weather but the system automatically reduces it by turning off the compressor to warm up the evaporator which melts the ice. Here in AZ it is usually so dry we just get a steady stream of water from underneath the drain.

I just came back from Hyundai and they said they are just going to change entire compressor. Will this cure the problem? If it's the magnetic stater, it should come new with the new compressor, correct?

thanks guys!

Probably. On many cars, the compressor clutch and other stuff can be replaced separately. But I have typically seen everything replaced when they use the term "compressor."

I went today to pick up the vehicle, they said it didn't need the compressor. They said they added freon. However, right there at the service department the ac started to blow ambient air again, I showed the manager and service advisor.

I don't know what else to do at this point, I left the vehicle there.

I think you have a bad sensor that is turning off the compressor. They should have been able to confirm that by looking at the compressor clutch while it blew ambient air. Another possibility is that the gate which directs air between the evaporator (cold) and heating element switches or sticks and allows warm air to pass.

Thank you, I will advise them. Incredible, either they can't figure it out or they are changing lowest cost items first in hopes of it fixing the issue.
