If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I've been watching the Genesis for quite a while and almost sold except once I've read up on them, there is so much info to work out. Bottom line, I'm deciding between
a 2012 Genesis V6
b 2011 Genesis V8
3 09 Jaguar xf supercharged\
4 10 Ford Taurus Sho
5 2008 Infinity M45x

the above are all cars I'm debating between now and each has their pros and cons.

Jag is a wee bit more expensive and probably more to repair but wow! factor
the genesis's are obvi the reason I'm here and leaning towards but each has caveats the 2012 I test drove was great but already had the slightest spot of rust on the door and more expensive than the v8.
v8 was cheaper.
I've driven an Infinity 06 m35x and loved it for both tech, bling and speed and also had an 08 lexus gs350. the infinity above is half the price of all the rest if not even less but also 220km on it.

so I basically want the speed, the audio also big time even though I have tinnitus (sigh), and the tech/comfort/cachet. Any thoughts? I'm torn between the v6 and the 8 because of the differences by year and changes made.

thanks for listening to my diatribe
Genesis wannabe but notbe... yet
Now for affordability I've decided to hit the above choices.

Check the carfax on each car. I can only tell you that I purchased my 2011 Genesis V8 in Sept. 2010. It now has over 202,000 miles on it and is a wonderful, reliable car. Service can be expensive, ie, 600.00 to 700.00 for transmission service and it does need to be done about every 70,000 miles.

2012 was the first year for the Hyundai 8-speed transmission (on V6 and V8), and had an above average number of problems. Hyundai replaced a fair number of them under warranty. It may have been fixed before the end of the 2012 model year, but not sure when.

Fernicus, welcome aboard. At least I'm not the the only one here trying to make that decision V6 or V8.

lol, thank you all and I had heard that the 2012 year was best. Seems that I have a choice amongst all of the above and especially 2 2011's that are more than eager to sell, sending me msgs to decide quick because theirs is the best. both v8's and similar specs. Both with winter tires thrown in. One maroon, the other black..... hmmmmm...... Are they expensive to repair? probably best to test drive both but they are far from home.

How about the 2012 v6? also had many issues? well, it seems that it may be neck in neck with the infinity and the 2 2011 Genesis'. Now to try and take them for a test drive but no way to travel to them unfortunately. They're over 50 kms away!

These were some of the vehicles I considered when I went with my first car. So happy I bought the 2011 Genesis 4.6 Technology. Can't beat the V8 rumble.

so let's say in a perfect world I was to make a decision between the 2011 v8 and the 2012+ V6, which is the best and still retain the power? btw, many of the genesis' that I have auditioned or checked out were either damaged or had issues or in the example of one car, had a history of almost every part on the car being replaced including the tranny! :(

I would go with 2011 V8. 387 horses on premium gas, premium 17 speaker Lexicon surround sound system.

I drove a bunch of cars with V6 engines. But after owning 2011 4.6 for five years I would not go back to V6, unless it is Godzilla.

I think MozartMan and I may agree that the 2011 4.6 with tech pkg. may be the sweet spot for the first generation of Genesis. (and maybe also early 2012s with the 4.6 V8 and ZF transmission)

I have a 2012 5.0 Rspec and my cousin bought his 2012 3.8 at the same time. Both have identical tech options. I have had one recall (windshield wiper motor replaced) and one warranty issue (turn signal stalk failed). He hasn't had any failures at all. Here is my comparison:

Power - in city or normal highway driving both have adequate power and are just as smooth. The Rspec will obviously outrun the V6 easily but I have only had to use that one time when a BMW tried playing games as I was passing. The GDI engine leaves a nice soot cloud when opened up for a short sprint which he coughed through and I know he was impressed because he saluted me with his finger as he eventually passed several miles later. :) Believe it or not I actually prefer the V6 for city driving because it steers quicker and doesn't feel as nose-heavy in normal traffic. If you want the all out power go for the 5.0. I have not driven a non-Rspec 5.0 but would assume it is similar to the V6. The Rspec does have stiffer suspension and performance tires so it does ride more harshly than the 5.0 and V6.

Amenities - identical. The 3.8 is/was about $10,000 USD cheaper when new.

A number of Genii were sold as leased/rentals. I would not touch one of those. And if you ever consider a V8 make sure its build date is later than April 2012 or else you might find you have an oil burner. Hyundai apparently had a bad set of rings supplied by a German company and has had to make good on engines that consumed great quantities of oil. The problem was fixed around the April 2012 build cycle and affected only the 5.0 V8's.

The only real aggravating thing I seriously dislike about my car is the nav system. It is the most useless and backasswards device ever made by man. I would buy a Genny having no nav system and instead would purchase a Garmin system. Much cheaper, easier to use and transportable to your next vehicle (not to mention free map updates). And this may not apply to our cousins in the Great White North but the screen is absolutely useless in the desert sunshine. I can use mine only at night or when the sun is in front of the car. Otherwise it is completely washed out even with tinted windows all around. Fortunately I rarely need to use it.

Fuel economy - he gets about 30 mpg in highway driving. I get about 2 mpg less. Not a big factor.

so the best one is probably the 2011 v6 and not the v8? sorry, confused. This particular Genesis I saw today.... yes, still testing them! - was a v8 with only 52k km on the engine BUT he swapped out the original exhausts and added hyundai aftermarket with double pipes. I prefer original and damn, those sounded like Godzilla with a sore throat. Probably cost a fair bit to get back originals.

I can attest on the R-spec it has some real get up and go. As for the Tech Package Navigation I can't tell you how many owners contact us weekly asking if they can use our Navigation System to replace the tech package screen and navigation system. And unfortunately they can't as our system was designed to replace the base radio as the wiring harnesses are different from the non-nav to the nav-equipped cars.
