We've gotten word from our man on location driving the new 2012 Hyundai Azera that the Korean automaker's fully redesigned full-size front-wheel-drive sedan will start at $32,000, not including $875 in destination charges, when it goes on sale this spring. The only option available will be a $4,000 Tech package. We're not certain yet what all will be included in the Tech package since items like touch-screen navigation and a back-up camera will be standard equipment on the 2012 Azera, but we're looking into it.

Hyundai is asking an awful lot more for its new Azera compared to the one it replaces, which carried a base MSRP of just $25,495. We'll have our First Drive report on the 2012 Hyundai Azera ready soon to let you know if the price jump is justified.

We likewise have pricing information to report for the refreshed 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, which will start at $24,250, again not including $875 in destination charges. That's for the four-cylinder 2.0t model with a manual transmission, while the upper bound on pricing is represented by the 3.8-liter V6-powered Track model with the new eight-speed automatic transmission that costs $34,250.

Lastly, while rumors had resurfaced again that Hyundai was considering creating a luxury sub-brand called Genesis that would sell both the sedan and coupe along with the larger Equus, Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik has told Autoblog, "There is no plan to create Genesis sub brand." He did, however, indicate that the next-generation Genesis sedan should have all-wheel drive as an option.2012 Hyundai Azera priced from $32,000 and Gen Coupe from $24,250* originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 14 Feb 2012 13:00:00 EST. Assuming the $4K Tech Package is the same as in the Genesis, I still say this is the death of the V6 Gen, at least in the snow belt where people are scared of RWD. Fwiw, my dealer says this region (whatever region includes Chicago) trails the nation in Gen sales. He attributes that to lack of AWD or at least FWD which everyone is used to.
Time will tell...

The $32,000 is aggressive IF you compare it to the current Azera model. However, the two are completely different beasts now.

And when you compare the Azera to say, a base Toyota Avalon, you're still getting great value with the Hyundai. For instance, the base Avalon starts at $33,995, and does NOT include heated front seats or navigation.

Plus, it looks like this*:

My dad just picked up the new Azera yesterday in St. Cloud. Guess they were about $2,000 less than other dealers in the twin cities so he drove an hour, and came back very pleased.

He has the Tech package also. Funny that his tires stock are 245 40 19 since my R Spec wheels are a 19 and I "upgraded" to a wider tire to a 245. His tires have a little bit less sidewall vs mine 45 to his 40, but the car rides very well (better than my Genesis). I notice that the exhaust tips have the soot like the new Genesis with the GDI engines. The OM says to run Top Tier gasoline only, or to add a bottle of fuel additive every 7500 miles. Guess the GDI is a little touchy. We have a Quik Trip with the top tier fuel right down the road from my place and my parents place.

Excuse my cell phone for the pics

Beautiful car! I saw a black one at my dealer the other day. I'm impressed.

Few things to point out that I like better than the Genesis or the Genesis doesn't have:

Seats seem to be more comfortable, but this is maybe a little too soon to judge without more seat time.

Seats have more side bolstering than the Genesis does

Both rear passenger windows have a pull up sun shade - not electric like the Equus, but still the Genesis doesn't even have this feature.

In tech package trim, Azera has wider tires and bigger wheels than the Genesis except for an R Spec with the Summer tire package.

Blue Link

More HP per liter then any Genesis engine except for the new coupe with the 348 hp 3.8 - Genesis sedan gets a detuned version (BOO)

I'm assuming that once the newly designed Genesis is out, it will have all these features plus a few more :)

It would only make sense, but then again who knows!

Holy cow! Who would want the Avalon now?

The launch of this car could very well end the brand legitimacy struggle Hyundai has been contending with, over it's desirability, resale value, quality, etc. among the uninformed and the "I get my identity from my car nameplate crowd."

I also forgot to mention the Azera's front seats are both ventilated vs. my Genesis is just the driver seat:confused:

Re: 2012 Hyundai Azera priced from $32,000 and Genesis Coupe from $24,250*

There's someone on the Edmunds forums who went from a 3.8 Genesis to a 2011 Sonata to the Azera (his wife made him get the Sonata) and he states that the Azera has the smoother ride (not surprisingly) and that it more fun around the curves (a bit surprising) than the Genesis.

The Azera's interior definitely makes the interior on the Genesis look outdated; the interior in the next gen Genesis and Equus sedans should be a major step up in both design and materials.
