  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Korean Luxury Gets A Little Sharper

Hyundai isn't interested in knocking shields with the likes of the BMW M guard, the Audi S line or even the Mercedes-Benz AMG legion with its 2012 Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. Instead, the newest addition to the Genesis line is out to offer buyers an extra helping of power and slightly sharper dynamics without all the motorsports pretense of its haughty German rivals. With 23 straight months of sales increases and 29,122 units sold last year, there doesn't seem to be much of an argument for varying the luxury sedan's recipe.

Even so, Hyundai has been quick to update its mid-luxury creation. Despite having arrived in 2008 as a 2009 model, the Genesis received a mild refresh in 2010, and 2012 brings a range of improvements across the line. Those include more power and fuel efficiency for the entry-level 3.8-liter V6 engine, aesthetic tweaks and the arrival of this range-topping Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. We were able to spend some time behind the wheel of the new five-liter four-door just outside of Las Vegas, but is the new bruiser worth its $47,350 price tag?Continue reading 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec

Ouch! A Genesis on gravel!

0-60 in 5.1 seconds.. And I bet we'll see even better times than that...

One of the reviewers said he expected it to do so in ~4.8 seconds... but I can't wait to see it confirmed.

Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala is telling me that Hyundai will only produce 12000 of the whole model line each year for 750 dealers. Considering the accuracy of the info that comes from many of the dealers, I don't know whether to believe this or not. They are considering the R Spec to be a limited production model.

I doubt that there is an artificial limit of the number of Genesis (or any specific Genesis trim level) to be produced other than sales forecasts. Hyundai plans on producing the expected number that they are pretty sure will sell. But no one wants to have a lot of unsold inventory, as exists to some degree right now with 2011 units still in stock, so sometimes they are overly cautious in their plans.

In many cases they can increase production if demand increases, but sometimes they cannot increase production without significant advance planning due to sourcing of certain parts that are needed. They probably don't expect to sell that many R-Specs compared to other models. But they have been wrong before, such as when there was a shortage of V8 Tech Package models in 2009 year.

The number one rule of salesmanship is to convince the customer that the item he/she wants will be in short supply in order to justify a higher markup (or the product is not available in order to steer the customer to a different product that is in stock). Regardless of how many/few R-Specs are produced, availability is going to depend on customer demand in addition to production volumes.
