  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

i like the color LCD information display better than the monochrome LCD in my 2011 4.6

can i pick up a 2012 from a boneyard, and will it just plug in and work?
anyone know what is involved in the swap, in taking out the old one?
will it register my correct odometer?

I am some experience with this same upgrade in other cars, and this kind of retroactive upgrade can potentially work in the Genesis. Unfortunately, many times you have to figure it out by trial and error. The first step is studying the wiring diagrams for both generations. If the connections are the same, then the odds are high that you can make it work. The next step is to identify where the car stores the odometer and how that works. The car will store the odometer in at least two independent modules. So, logically, one of them is likely to be the instrument cluster. When a new instrument cluster is installed, there is typically a computer configuration step that sets the odometer and some other stuff (like V8 versus V6 for the tachometer.) If you got a used instrument cluster, and if you could get it programmed, then the internals would have to allow resetting the odometer setting.

All that said, it is totally doable in other cars. It should be doable for the Genesis. The key is figuring out how to do the computer programming stuff.

Let us know if it works, I would like it also...

This seems trivial, but it is actually one of the small things that led me to buy a 2012. I was looking at a used 2010 or 2011. But, when I test drove a new 2012, I liked the color of the wood trim and the color of the color LCD instrument cluster. When I found a dealer demo car with 3K miles, I pounced on it.

That means it is pretty much a sure thing that you could retrofit it. If they have both styles of the cluster on the same model year, then you could almost certainly retrofit it in an earlier year that has the older style cluster.

they had the color TFT display on KDM sedans the whole time

Hi there!
I have installed instrument cluster from 2013 model today. My car is 2009 and everything is working fine. Even music while turning my car on and off.
Dear gearM,

Could you, please, share information about your install with us, fellow Genesis owners.

Where did you get 2013 instrument cluster?
How did you install it?
How many Russian rubles were involved?

Thanks

I've bought it on ebay for just 20$ plus shipping (here is a link for my lot http://www.ebay.com/itm/122595784255). Glass was cracked but i used my old one to replace it. Installation is simple - you are just replacing old one with the new one. In my case there were tpms warning light since I don't have it in my car. I fixed it with help of small piece of isolation between led and and its cover. This is it.

Hey guys, this post caught my attention so I did the swap as well. I have the 2011 tech package, but could not figure how to roll forward the odometer. I was hoping for tips before I go to a mechanic.

You could try one of the services online like this one: Mileage Programming

I know this post is old but i put a 2012 instrument cluster in my 2009 genny, i was wondering if anyone knew a way to turn of the EBS and LDWS lights? Otherwise it runs good

CHEAP WAY: Use black electrical tape and place it over the area behind the gauge face
MORE EXPENSIVE METHODS: Have someone that can program the functionality away or knows how to trick the systems into thinking that everything is working as expected.

As far as calibration of your odometer, was there something you had to do? For my older car, I created new gauge faces as I hated the font and colors of the original (they were all orange). At any rate, I bought an instrument cluster from a junk yard for prototyping and the mileage was different when installed. Therefore that is why I am asking if you had to get it reprogrammed, or was there something you could do to calibrate the odometer with the true mileage yourself?

Ima have someone someone remove the lights for me, im not gonna put tape on my cluster lol. But my car has like 167k miles, the new cluster only has 62k miles, I probably wont get the miles fixed lol

Just to make sure I understand, Can anyone tell me if I can swap instrument clusters.
I have a 2012 3.8 Premium, Can I swap in a Rspec or a tech package cluster. not to worried about mileage as I will try to get one with similar mileage as mine.
Below are pics of what I have vs what I want to have, any feedback is appreciated.s-l1600 (1).webps-l1600 (2).webp
