  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Here is what I can tell so far with regards to exterior lighting on the 2012. These are just my observations, so they shouldn't be taken as gospel; in fact I'm also hoping someone with specific info comes forward and corrects me as needed.

It appears that there are different "modes" of operation, with each one turning on/off certain lights.

  • Daytime mode- the Daytime Running Light, or DRL, is on. This looks like it would have been the "position light" from previous years (though I do not mean to imply that the bulbs are the same; in fact they look completely different.)
  • Nighttime low-beam- The DRL lights are off, the normal headlights are ON, and the light bar is also on, fog lights ON if switch is on
  • Nighttime high-beam- The DRL lights are ON, Normal headlights ON, lightbar is ON, Fog lights OFF regardless of fog light switch
  • Parking light mode (for lack of a better term) DRL is ON, light bar is ON, fog lights are OFF, again regardless of switch

As far as I can tell, there is no high beam bulb, though I have yet to confirm if any of the lights gets brighter when high beams are on (rather than just turning lights on or off).

So I have no idea if any of the bulb sizes in the sticky are correct for 2012. If I were to guess, I'd guess that the fog lights and the primary headlights are the same.

2012 only have one bulb for the headlights. The headlight bulbs have 2 filaments inside, one for high, one for low.

Easiest way is the pull the headlight and foglight bulb out and look on the base for the writing.

Thanks Scott. Any idea what kind of bulb that is?

I always thought that the daylight bulb and the high beam bulb are one and the same, with one fillament, but operated at different voltage to be brighter or dimmer. That is the one closer to the grill. The low beam bulb is separate and located behind the projector lens.

This is correct. The DRL/high beam bulb is a H7, 55 watt bulb. The foglight bulb is a H8, 35 watt bulb.

So would a standard H7 bulb, fit, such as [ame="http://www.amazon.com/GE-H7-55NHP-BP2-Nighthawk-Headlight/dp/B002UXBELY/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1347372322&sr=1-1&keywords=GE+H7-55NHP%2FBP2+Nighthawk+PLATINUM+Headlight+Bulbs%2C+Pack+of+2"]this?[/ame] I was going to get the Sylvania Silverstars, but the reviews I've seen on the Silverstars seem to suggest that they don't seem to last very long.

The Silverstars don't last long at all, so personally I'd skip them, plus your factory bulb is better anyway. BTW the link you provided doesn't work.

Link not working, but yes, any 55 watt H7 bulb will work as a replacement. There are companies that sell higher wattage bulbs; I would NOT recommend going this route, as it places undue strain on the housing, wiring harness and vehicle electronics.

Weird, I always thought the LED strips were the Daytime running lights. Seems dumb to have both these and DTRL's IMO.

Daytime Running lights don't exist on the 2009-2011 non-canadian version.

My suspicion is that the LED strips are not bright enough to be certified as DRLs. I agree; other than being a cosmetic enhancement there doesn't seem to be any other benefit.

Sorry about the broken link. I went with GE H7-55NHP/BPT Nighthawk Platinum

Sorry about the broken link. I went with GE H7-55NHP/BPT Nighthawk Platinum

Excellent choice, it doesn't have the light-stealing blue glass and produces a lot of light without the glare of cheap bulbs.

^ That link didn't work for me. Odd.

Try this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/GE-H7-55NHP-BP2-Nighthawk-Headlight/dp/B002UXBELY/ref=au_pf_pfg_s?ie=UTF8&Make=Hyundai%7C3&Model=Genesis%7C6832&Year=2009%7C2009&carId=001&n=15684181&newCar=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive"]GE H7-55NHP/BP2 Nighthawk PLATINUM Headlight Bulbs, Pack of 2 : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

I've had my Nighthawk Platinums on for several months now; the daytime running lights of course are always on in the daytime, and I've also used my highbeams for a grand total of about 3-4 hours. No problems with reliability of these, and as mentioned, they're definitely brighter than stock.
