  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi folks, I'm looking to get into a Genesis here in Canada.

I can get a brand new 2012 Genesis/Premium for $40,259 or get a brand new 2013 for $46,759. Those are internet prices, I haven't talked to a dealer about them. Is the 2013 worth the $6500 difference? I prefer the looks of the wheels on the 13 but that's no big deal.

Maybe I should sit on my wallet until the 14's come out, that can't be too far away. Prices of the 2012/13 may take a decent drop.

When do the 14's come out?

Thanks ... RonJ

If your finances allow, I'd go for a new 2014. If not, not much need in waiting for the '14 to come out as they're already trying to empty inventory. I doubt seriously there's any more incentive to wait. Also, a 2013 is a 2013 in 2016 or 2018. The amount of $ you may save would be minimal compared to the depreciation you'd take for getting an "older" car.

Really depends on how long you keep a car. I picked up a (new) 2012 with 5000 miles on it from the dealer, V6 with tech & premium packages - which is what I wanted. So add the bumper to bumper for 10 years 100,000 miles and I basically got the packages & extended warranty for the price of the base car.

My last car was almost 10 years old & I kept it 8 years. At that point it didn't matter whether it was 10 or 12 years old.

Late June 2013 bought brand new 2012 Genesis/Tech (200Km) around $37,500 Cdn, got $8,500.00 from Hyundai and $5,500.00 from dealer. May I suggest you talk to the dealer. At $40,259, that is $6,500 reduce by Hyundai but nothing yet from the dealer. Hyundai Canada site shows the reduction when you go to build and choose your year model as 2012. Hope this info help.

Might have missed the boat here, the dealer that was showing new 2012's as well as 2013's is only showing 2013's now ..... :(

Most 2012's are long gone. Probably only one left over one they had. The good news is, the 2014 is supposedly unchanged and the "new" model will be a 2015 MY, so you could hold out for a bit and haggle for a 2013 and get a deal on what should be pretty much the same car for the '12 to '14 model years.

honestly the biggest thing that's an improvement for the '13 is blue link and bluetooth streaming. If you won't use them, get the '12 (if you can).

In reality it's all what you want to get. If you want the tech, and you want a v8 without getting the R spec, there's a couple of options for '12 that went away in '13.

One last thing to chew on... the tech package has an improved (comparing my '13 to the '12 manual) head unit software/hardware, which includes a cleaner interface, all options available without 'engineering mode', more up to date maps, and bluetooth streaming baked in.

Test the Blue Link first hand before buying. If I spent 20 minutes playing around with it, I wouldn't have spent the extra money for it, as it didn't do what I expected.

You should consult autotrader.ca to find out if there is any new Gen 2012 in your area.

Yes, and also check for gently used '12 & '13 cars there. The arrival of the 2015 model next year will likely make our first generation cars a bit passé.

"Gently used" bbaaaaaahhhhhaaaaaa...... sounds like Slick Willie at "Honest John's Used Cars" Willie Cheatham and Hau

A used car that comes with 36,000 miles is not gently used. On the other hand, this 2012 one for sale in Ottawa might be.

That is a nice car in Ottawa, reputable dealer too. Only 60 miles away from me. I emailed him a few days ago asking him to keep me in mind if he gets something else like this one in, but not black or white. My two least favourite colours are black, too hard to keep clean, and white, the car gets lost in fog or a snowstorm.

Thanks for the heads up though.

What is “Limited Tech Package” ? I see the 18” wheels that belong to the Tech package but no radar windows in front for Smart Cruise and no DIS system in cockpit. Is this some variation on the Tech Package ? Strange

"Limited" is a marketing term. I'm guessing this is also why Hyundai changed the top model of the Sonata in 2006 from the "LX" to the Limited thereafter. People associate "limited" as a well equipped car. Basically the dealer trying to fancy the add up.

Just common dealer fraud. There is no Tech Package on that car, it is Premium Package only.

1. The dealer is not a Hyundai dealer, so the term "fraud" is a real stretch.

2. The OP is looking for a Premium package model.

3. At a glance, it looks like a cherry gently-used car.

Doesn't matter if it was a Hyundai dealer. It was at least gross negligence, which is considered to be constructive fraud in most states. Someone in the auto business has the responsibility to exercise proper care when advertising goods for sale.

Baloney. The seller of this car said it has a limited tech package, hardly a copywrited term. Check out the stickers on used cars at CarMax, for example. My Cabernet Red Pearl is called "red." A used car dealer is under no obligation to present an original new car window sticker. Go ahead and sue them.
