  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have noticed that when I brake and swerve to avoid a collision that the LCD display briefly shows a car with red and possibly an exclamation point, and will chime. I'm not using the smart cruise, and typically driving under 40 MPH. Is the car telling me that it is activating some pre-accident feature?

I would describe it better, but I typically have driving to pay attention to, and not the dash cluster.

Yep... Notice is last resort, and unless one is uber fast reacting, I think a bit late in announcement. They basics are there to auto brake, but that feature is not enabled or engineered in the brakes to work. Gen 2 has the auto braking.

Also, you were looking for 2012 window sticker? If so, I Pasted it on the thread.

I just purchased a 2014 and had this happen to me today. I was driving on the highway at about 75MPH and 10 car lengths up in front of me the traffic started to stop VERY quickly.... I had to really hammer the brakes but also noticed a warning come up on the center screen lit up in RED (with a picture of the car).

Not sure what else it said or did as I was focused on stopping and hot hitting the car in front of me. I also had the radio up loud enough that I wasn't sure if the car beeped or not....

So with that all being said, does this car automatically stop to avoid collision if I didn't hit the brakes?

After reading the manual and doing a little investigation I believe this is the AVSM feature of the car. It says that is does not STOP the car but in certain situations it helps brake the car.

You will get this false alarm if you are following somebody that is turning right, and you are veering left to clear them as they turn and you don't want to slow down. The sensor's are convinced that you are about to hit the guy in front, because it doesn't know the other guy is turning out of your path and you are swerving around him. You get the red highlighted car in the dash and a warning beep, but there is no braking action that I know of, at least not on the 2012 model.

It doesn't brake for you in the 2012 model. It just yells at you.

Today while driving my Genesis, I was focusing on getting into the other lane when all a sudden my lane stopped. The car beeped and showed a collision warning on the dash and it felt as if it started to brake for me before I slammed on my brakes.

From reading a few post it sounds like it doesn't brake, but I want to say I felt it.

All in all, that safety saved me. Love this car more and more.....

Now if you had the SCC on, then it *definitely* brakes for you!
