  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ran the R-Spec at Wannagofast Georgia yesterday. 4 runs, each run consistently at 122 mph. Ran away from a Mustang, got beat (barely) by a 300 SRT8, beat a Viper that couldnt get off the line. The R-Spec tranny seems to have a hole in its performance right around 100 to 110 mph, then runs strong to the end of the half mile. Crowd was amazed that a HYUNDAI was running on the same track as Nissan GTR, Lambo, Vette etc.

Sounds like fun. Way to represent.

Did you get a time for the 1/4 and the 1/2?

Which mustang?

Wannagofast is a top speed event, so no times are recorded. Its speed at the end of the 1/2. it was a later model Mustang GT

Yep, knew it was a top speed event, but wasn't sure of they also gave time.

Was the mustang a 4.6 Coyote motor or their V6?

So the SRT8 and you were fairly even the whole way?

What happened to the viper? Too much wheel spin or did he break?

Mustang was a V8, slow off the line, wheel spin.
SRT actually ran a lower top speed than I did, but got there quicker. There is a "hole" in the R-Specs performance between 100 and 110ish, where the car just goes slack,,,then at 110ish it kicks back in. It was running on strong as heck from 115ish to 122.
Viper couldnt get it off the line, went into the rev limiter at every shift, and broke the rear end loose on every shift.

Speed wise it was Mustang GT115 to my 121
Viper was 112 to my 122
300SRT was 115 to my 122
Porsche 928 with a 350 was 127 to my 122.

One thing about the R-Spec, coming off the line, theres no wheel spin, the 1/4 mile is quick, lots of acceleration till the 100ish slowdown, then lots of power at the end. This car could easily gone over 122 with a little more distance. Next I'm gonna look at exhaust cutout (tired of the "Thats a HYUNDAI?) I want some NOISE. After that? I gotta find a parts house thats working on R-Specs. I want at least 130-140ish in the half.

Thanks for the info. Nice consistant times on your part.

I've never noticed a bog down at 100. Maybe I didn't go far enough. But then again, by time I'm at 100, I 'm on the freway and passing cars and realise I'm going that fast. :)

I'd love to do a flying 1/2 or full mile if they ever have one out my way.

On a side note, I was out yesterday, had the windows down cuse the AC is out. As the car was shifting fom either 1 to 2 or 2to 3, not sure which, I heard a little chirp as it shifted. Not the usualy long shift but a quick shift with a little bark. Thought it was cool.

Which makes me wonder, did I get a mid week car? Or some hot rod guy built this one? You've heard the stories. Mine seems to learn when I want to go fast and adjust accordingly.

The bad part is, there's not much out there for our cars. Exhaust, but a lot have drone which I've been thru before on my other family ride and won't go that way again. There are a few intake filters, but no true CAI, or even a ram air. No tune at all that I know of.

PM me to "friend" me on FB if you want to see the video's of the Mustang and Viper run.

I talked to a tech at a Midas today who used to work for Hyundai. He said there is a torque "hole" in the 5 liters performance right where I found it to be. He's searching his Hyundai stuff to find the name of a performance house that was working directly with Hyundai on an exhaust and intake solution that would fix this problem. I'll post what he finds. I own a parts store, I cant find ANYONE selling hook up parts for an R-Spec.

Wannagofast is an awesome way to get a feel for yours car's performance. I could have done 2 to 3 more runs that day if I hadnt have been so tired. We left town at midnight in order to get to Clayton Ga at check-in time.

Cool. Keep us up to date if you find anything out.

Sorry but I don't FB.

A fellow Golf R owner was at the same event. He hit 133.8 mph.

I'm planning on taking my Golf R to the next Florida event, as I missed the last one.... Thinking I can hit 140-145 mph, but I'm only speculating.. Need to put my money where my mouth is.

Looking forward to going and I think it's pretty cool you took a Genesis out there. What we need is some decent aftermarket performance products for the Genesis. Tunes, Intakes, etc. While I owned my Genesis, nothing ever really came to market. (2009-2013)

If anyone here is planning on doing the next Florida event (probably spring of 2014) maybe I'll see you. I'd go over and talk to anyone driving a Genesis anyways. :)
