I got 2012 3.8 Tech, so yes, I do have the radar cruise control. And as I said, it becomes an issue only if you trust the cruise control to the point where you stop paying attention to the road...
either way, I think we got all the bases covered.
i've experimented with the adaptive cruise pulling into toll plazas in Delaware and maryland and somehow it knows to slow the car down as the radar (i guess) is bouncing off the toll booths. it slowed pretty rapidly form a couple hundred feet out. not throwing me threw the windshield or even enough for my wife to complain. i kept bragging how cool it is i can slow down through the ez pass and it just accelerates again without me touching anything lol. needless to say she got sick of it pretty quickly![]()
My wife kept asking "did you brake or the car"? She learned to trust.

...The vehicle cannot be stopped by using the smart cruise control system....
...I wish the display indicated any drop below the set speed, just as it does when you manually accelerate beyond the set speed. Has the display changed at all for 2012?
It most certainly will stop the vehicle. You still have to 'drive' the car and pay attention... the Smart Cruise should not be relied on to stop the car from highway speed when traffic ahead has already come to a stop or near stop.
There are all sorts of potential bad things with this feature. Ironic that this is both a convenience and safety feature while at the same time a real hazard - much more so than the radio display that requires you to 'accept' the warning before using - you don't have to 'accept' the Smart Cruise, if you follow me on what I am saying?
the only scary part is when traffic is moving well, you stay on your cruise on like 70mph and all of a sudden you see the cars stopped in front of you.
It has to click in your head to stop the car, because if you don't the car won't have enough distance to do it on it's own.
Just a point to trust the system but still think for your self ALL the time.
smart cruise control is great in every situation except 1, sudden traffic stops.
If you're cruising at anything over 50mph and the cars in front of you are doing 0, the greatest distance on the cruise control won't give you enough room to slow down without whacking the car in front of you.
My Acura RL, no matter what cruising distance you pick, looks forward at maximum distance to prepare the CMBS system (collision mitigating braking system).
It's irresponsible to have a cruise control system without some sort of a warning if you're approaching an object too fast. I mean...you'd actually have to pay attention to traffic conditions!
