  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

well this according to the "zero to 60" website below, but i'm not sure as to the validity. 2012 v6 0-60 @ 5.3 seconds and the 1/4 miles 13.8 vs the 2009 v8 0-60 @ 5.5 seconds and the 1/4 mille 13.9.
5.0 r spec = 0-60 in 4.7 and the 1/4 mile @ 13.1

splitting hairs, i know, but i found it interesting and the fact that one can not only be quicker than the v8 w/ the new v6, but also save substantially on gas consumption.

i guess it's obvious why hyundai will be phasing out the 4.6 for the 5.0, which, according to "zero to 60", will acheive 4.7 seconds in 0-60. that makes the 5.0 worth it to me :) but not in the r spec. i'll wait for the 5.0 to come w/ the non r spec sedan.

i just recently (july) purchased an 09 4.6 tech white / cashew genny @ carmax w/ 15k miles on her (1 owner lease and very clean) for 29,000 for my wife (she drives it to work and i get to wash it, although it's mine to drive on the weekends :) ). but back in june, we were considering a factory demo 2011 black 4.6 w/ 10k miles, but we were waiting for our CA state sales tax to come down in july, so we waited and lost that deal on the factory demo (they sold it) but saved approx 800.00 on the tax w/ the carmax purchase.

the bad thing w/ our 09 is of course the resale- an 09 will lose alot of $ in resale vs an 2011, but then again, we couldnt of touched the 2011 for 29k either, so i gues it's kind of a wash. either way, we're really happy w/ her.

i re badged her right away- front, back, and steering wheel (pop on only) and found this site to be extremely helpful w/ the badging process. it made the job quite easy and saved me big bucks doing it myself- thanks! i'll post some pics later.

but back to the 5.0, i think we'll wait a couple years for the 5.0 to come out in the sedan and then trade our 09 in for the 5.0. hopefully by then, hyundai will offer a sports mode switch (like bmw) for the tranny that firms-up the shifting. that would help the 5.0 tremendously imo. nevetheless, i can't wait for the 5.0 in the sedan.

The 2012 V6 may be faster than 09 V8 (which I'm not totally convinced yet) but none in the Genesis owner community has a vehicle as unique as your with Cashew interior.;) Just joking, I know what you meant & welcome to the forum.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I'm not sure how much to trust that website - but it COULD be accurate. I'd wait to get some people who actually take the car to a drag strip to see how it does. I'm really impressed with both the 2012 V6 and V8. Just as much as I was impressed with the previous V6 and V8. Hyundai is doing a great job with their engines.

I'll be paying very close attention to the redesigned Genesis when it launches in a few years. That's about when I'll be ready for my next vehicle purchase.

i believe they should be about equal in 0-60 times, but the main difference is that the V8 is quiet and creamy smooth, whereas the V6 makes itself known with moderate to aggressive throttle application.

The V8 is probably more powerful at highway speeds as well.

The math proves this false. Yes the V6 gets slightly better gas mileage, the reality is you have to drive quite a bit to notice the difference in your wallet. Just based on EPA ratings there is something like a 3mpg difference? If you drive 1000 miles month the difference is is <$25 month.

In exchange you get a quieter (the engine is soooo much smoother) car that by almost every measure rides better too. I gladly pay the $25 bucks...and would pay even more all things being equal.

I know this thread is old but tbh im not sure if my 09 4.6 can beat a 12 3.8. Maybe in a race from like 80mph. The 6 speed in the 09 4.6 holds this back car bad. I really want to swap in the 8speed from the 2012
