If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I purchased a 2012 Hyundai Genesis V6 in July 2011 and was shocked they already had 2012 models coming out so soon. As an engineer, this was troubling because they were in such great demand and were being pushed off the assembly line far too quickly. One major problem with mine is the air conditioning works great but you are usually already at or near your destination before it starts cooling with very cold air. I am guessing it might be a late engaging radiator fan due to a bad sensor, etc. Has anyone had any similar problems and know what a fix might be? I like working on cars but just might be scheduling an appointment soon if I can not fix his problem.

I think this (delayed cooling) is commonly reported as a symptom of a bad control valve on the side of the compressor. Some have changed just the valve, and others have changed the whole compressor to resolve the problem.

Joe,

Thanks for your help. My former mechanic who could service vehicles built on Mars was reluctant to work on my 2012 V6 Genesis. I still work on cars a little but my hands are too big and special tools are often required now with all the items added to car engines and under the hood.

I have moved to Arizona and found a great mechanic again. It is good to know how to talk with him before he does unnecessary work or runs up a huge bill. This particular model and year came off the line far too fast when Hyundai engineers and assembly workers had to have known there would be issues. It was cheaper to deal with all the class action lawsuits that ensued versus huge profits but hurt Hyundai's credibility some for anyone who knows anything about cars.

Cheers,

Lee M.

There are many historical threads on these forums with complaints about poor AC cooling in the BH sedan. IMO, the BH has a slightly undersized HVAC system for the Southern USA, but it's not so bad that you can't mitigate it with a little effort. Almost all of the forum complaints had no mechanical problem, but had most of the following common traits in their scenarios:
1. Summer time (or lived in the Southern US).
2. Parked in the sun a while with no window tint, no sun shade, moonroof glass closed but the shade open, and/or didn't try parking in the shade under a tree, etc..
3. Started the car and wondered why the AC wouldn't blow cold within the first 30 seconds at idle.
4. Noticed that after opening the windows for a minute and getting the car moving at 30mph or so for a minute, the AC cooled the car down pretty well.

I've owned BH sedans in FL with no aftermarket window tint. I park in the shade when I can, and use a sunscreen for the windshield when I can't, and never had an issue with the AC performance when I do this. Never needed to have either car's AC serviced. But if the car sat in the sun all day, it would be 150F+ inside and take a few minutes to cool off while driving with the windows down until the AC started blowing cold.

If this is your situation, then what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. If this doesn't apply to you and it won't blow cold at all then yeah you have a mechanical issue.

I think your problem is Arizona, not your 10 year-old car’s design, or from “coming out too soon.”

No such problems with my ‘12 V6 sedan. AC still works great in its 10th year on the road here in Virginia. I do have all windows tinted (except for the windshield) with Llumar Air Blue 80 ceramic tint.

Recommend you get a proper AC service, add tint, or buy a new car.

I occasionally have the same problem, with my '12 3.8, but it's not 30 seconds, it's 5 minutes and during that time the HVAC system blows warm air. I had a sim problem with diff make/model and it was the "blend" door that diverts the airstream either to the heater core or the AC unit getting stuck. Get your mechanic (or you) to put a code reader on the system and find the code that corresponds to the AC mode, and see what the blend door is reporting.

Joe Gr, thanks for the email. Will likely pass this information onto my neighbors mechanic (also his son-in-law) to help them with their diagnoses. My former mechanic where I lived before could work on cars from Mars but when I told him the make, model and year of this Genesis, he did not look too happy about working on it. Cheers...

Thanks for the information. I have a code reader for my older Toyota Highlander that should work. Too busy putting out some major fires to work too much on right now but will pass this information and code results to a new mechanic.

Gunkk, thanks for detailed reply. Have a good one...

My 2013 does the same thing. It can be in the garage and I turn it on the AC doesn’t cool well especially if I just idle. Now once I start driving it works well. Almost like the fans are not pulling enough air when at idle.
It could have something to do with the fans.
Our 2007 Tahoe with 173000 miles can be in the sun all day and the AC blasts cold immediately.
