One dealer that I have been communicating with has just e-mailed me that the 2012 will be available in June. We'll see...............

I participated this evening in the HyundaiThinkTank chat with Ricky Lao, Hyundai's Product Planning Manager for the Hyundai Genesis. Ricky said that the 2012 models will begin showing up on dealer lots near the end of May. I learned that R-spec should start showing up on dealer lots in late May or early June.

Someone asked about price but they are not ready to release a price yet. If the timing on delivery to dealers is correct, I am guessing that Hyundai may use the New York show to announce the price -- but that is just a guess.

One other piece of information that was interesting is that we were told the optional summer tire is going to be the Bridgestone Potenza. While we were not expressly told that the Michelin will not be available, the information given to us last night appears to indicate that the Michelin Pilot may be off the table as an optional tire (as had previously been reported). We were told the Dunlop will be the standard tire.

I also learned that the suspension for the Genesis Sedan has been changed across the board (V6, 4.6, and 5.0). Hyundai is adamant that we will see a big improvement in the suspension for the 2012 model.

Unfortunately, there is no script for the chat that I am aware of. When they ended the chat last evening everything just disappeared so there was no way to save it on my end. I believe I have hit most all of the hightlights. Hopefully, somebody else on the board attended and can correct me if they remember something else.

The focus of the chat appeared to be showing pictures of the 2012 Sedan in varying exterior angles. They were looking for feedback concerning the changes that have been made for 2012. The car they used for the photos was an R-spec. I don't believe there were any photos used for the chat that we haven't all seen by now.

The chat also included several polls seeking feedback such as future styling for the car and present vehicle owned. I encourage everyone to participate the next time the Think Tank holds such a chat because it was a very good experience.

I did recall one additional piece of information you may find helpful. Someone asked whether the 8-speed transmission was developed entirely in-house or is there a licensing agreement with ZF. The response was the 8-speed transmission is entirely a Hyundai product developed in-house.

Just saw the script of the chat on Think Tank... and didn't learn anything new at all, other than what elohp mentioned about cars showing up on dealer lots in late May (early June for R spec). I'm disappointed, and wish more of us genesisowners.com regulars were on the chat -- though I'm pretty certain Ricky wouldn't have come off the predetermined script anyway!

Though I say again I'm disappointed that the R spec doesn't come with paddle shifters, and none of the models have the cooled passenger seat, these are features that I can live without until the complete redesign. The question THEN will be, do I get the Genesis (if they don't goof it up) or step up to the Equus!

PS --> My brother huffed at me a couple of months ago when I told them I was getting an R Spec. Today, he says he's looking forward to the NYIAS so he can check out the 3.8 Coupe! And yes, I told him to wait for the redesign announcement before he pulls the trigger.

Can't wait to see the reviews. I will be getting a Genesis about this time next year. Looking at a used 2010/2011 V8. But If the 2012 has great reviews, I might have to look for a slightly used one this time next year. Hope to get a deal on something. If the V6 gets great reviews, might go for it. The improved gas mileage has me looking at it.

The suspension changes are what I'm looking for...a better suspension (more compliant? less jolting? don't know the words) means a trully great car! The question becomes are the new parts bolt in replacements for existing parts and if so then what does the refreshed genesis have to offer verse added expanses? I'll tell you what if Monroe offered a shock asorber that "calmed and smoothed" the ride of my Genesis I would'nt look at a new car for years.
