  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012...

Are you sure about this? I haven't seen anything mentioned specifically about a redesign. Seems a bit abrupt to redesign after only 4 years, but then again, I suppose Hyundai is very "forward-thinking" these days. :)

I read this and although nobody can be sure I will make a stretch and predict NOW that the rear end of the 2013 will "look nothing like" the 2009 thru 2012
Anyone want to bet?

I see the 2012 as a nice face lift together with some important mechanical changes. The 429 hp motor will have direct fuel injection. My sense is that Hyundai is slow releasing this motor because of longer-than-anticipated debugging. The new eight speed transmission should also be interesting. Hyundai supposedly is manufacturing this transmission in-house. I suspect they have been purchasing the current six speed ZF transmission intact from Germany. If so, it makes sense to manufacture in house. I suspect this new transmission will be a ZF design made under license.

Sometime after 2012 there will be a major body change. My guess is that the Genesis platform will still be used; and the styling will have the new streamlined look found on the Elantra and Sonata.

3.8 will get current 4.6 brakes (13.0")

and 4.6's and 5.0's will get bigger brakes (13.6")

By this (and I mean particularly since you used the phrase "look nothing like" in quotes in a clear reference to the thread containing the below) you must surely mean that the rear end of the 2013 will look approximately like that of a Corvette, yes?

I have a 2011 V8 Genny with <4K miles I'd be willing to wager. Based on recent observation, however, any terms we arrange will need to involve some sort of escrow mechanism.

Now that looks NOTHING like it

I have the same car and YOU are on, DEFINE your position NOW because I do not trust you or cut-throat, not at all.

I am clearly stating there will be new dies, new body panels and a new look,
Even though there will be similarities it will be "The next Generation" different body all together.

more 2012 news...

19" wheels/tires with summer tire as PIO option
3.8 brakes get 4 pistons
4.6 & 5.0 will get larger brakes
16 city/ 25 hwy for 5.0

so with an 8-speed tranny and direct injection, the new engine will get worse mpgs than the old one?

They have stated improved mileage because of the 8 speed transmission.

I also immediately checked the site for Chicago show and only shows debut of Veloster and Equus. Very confusing. Originally I heard that debut would be in April at NYC show.

Automotive insiders have just revealed the new Genesis 2012 will come standard with "autosuc" for those long waits in city traffic. Hyundai reports pre-sale figures of 300,000 units. MB and BMW are upset and announce their cars don't come with it because there is no heavy traffic in Europe.

The new Genesis campaign to be released new week simply states- "Show me the traffic and we'll show you a happy owner".

This article goes a little further and indicates delivery of the 2012 model will begin in March.

Interesting if accurate. Looks like a nice "little" price increase will come with the refresh. Article says price will be between $45,000 and $50,000. That top end price is awfully close to the Equus. Hmmm.

We all knew that the Genesis price was not static after 3 years of no increase. That would be a totally unreasonable expectation. I would not expect the Equus to remain at its current level if sales continue to meet goal. The real question is are all Genesis going to get the 5.0 engine or just the "R Spec". If they all get it then why would anyone buy that model over the less expensive Tech model. It could be that just the Equus and the R Spec get the 5.0 engine and the lower spec Genesis models keep the 4.6.

I think you nailed it... if the "R-Spec" thing is accurate, then it sounds like the 3.8L and 4.6L remain (likely with a small "inflation" type increase, or none at all), and the R-Spec 5.0L will be offered as the "top of the line" model.

Wish they would announce it already. Tired of all the speculation - I need to SEE IT.

:(

On an unrelated note, check this out: http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2011/02/dodge-unveils-sporty-rt-versions-of.html

I LOVE the looks of the Challenger, but is it me, or does the R/T version's "performance" seem ridiculously weak?

372 HP / 400 lbs ft and a 0-60 time of "under 6 seconds" from a 5.7L engine? REALLY? Even the current 4.6L outperforms it!
