2012...

I emailed Hyundai USA and they confirmed that the 5.0 will be there. I may go on 29th unless it is released to dealers prior to that date.
 
Has anyone seen online the 2012 line up for the Genesis sedan? I know about the R-Spec, but are there other upgrades to the Genesis? Ive been searching on Google, but cant really find anything new.

Hopefully stock tires on 5.0 will not be Dunlaps.
 
They probably will be, though they're offering summer performance tires. Whoop-dee-doo... I can buy my own summer performance tires, probably for half the price. Just offer something OEM that doesn't SUCK, then I'll gladly keep them over the premium offering.
 
Read somewhere else that orders were being taken in Korea - I wouldn't be surprised if production had already started, though I think Hyundai is sticking to the "Summer 2011" timeline.
 
If it is a summer release, I will wait until late September to make a move because I spend all summer out of my home state of NJ. Maybe get a better deal.
 
I leased a 2011 4.6 before learning about the changes for 2012. While I love the car, it kind of ticked me off that such dramatic changes were being made mid cycle. Had I known, I would've held onto my 3.8 for another year. Although it might explain why I got the 4.6 for the exact same price as the 3.8.
 
Im reading the features list on the 2012's and what is one millimeter increase on the stabilizer bar on the 5.0 going to do for the ride quality?

I guess I really dont know what the stabilizer bar actually does. Sorry for my ignorance :)...

Stabilizer bars are also known as "anti-roll bars." Basically they try to make the car body resist leaning while cornering. Imagine a wide "U" shape with the ends of the "U" connected to the wheel hubs. The base of he "U" runs through a pair of pivot loops attached to the car body. If the wheels go up/down over a road bump together the ends of the "U" just go up/down with the wheels. However, if one wheel tries to go over a bump while the other wheel is on flat pavement, the "U" has to twist a little. The "U" then acts like a torsional spring resisting that movement. Now imagine driving around a sharp curve... the car body wants to lean over. What that does is make one wheel seem to go up while the other goes down, twisting the "U" a lot. It resists this - keeping the car body from leaning as much.

A larger diameter bar is stiffer so the vehicle will have more resistance to body roll BUT will react more when only one wheel hits a road bump/dip.

Modern cars have "independent suspensions" which basically means each wheel has its own links to the car body... thus when one wheel moves up/down due to road bumps, it doesn't make any other wheel move as well. Picture the rear axle assembly of most pickups: that's NOT an independent suspension. That type of suspension is called a "solid axle" suspension... and when one wheel rides over a bump, that end of the axle goes up with the wheel, tilting the whole axle a bit. That tilts the wheel on the other side so it no longer rides flat on the pavement - not the best for handling or ride quality. Also, that big solid axle is heavy - once it gets moving from a bump in the road its inertia will want to keep it moving - so it transfers that energy to the car body making it move more. The "links" of an independent suspension are much lighter - lower inertia - so they transfer less of the bump energy to the car body.

2012 3.8L V6: I don't understand how they know Highway mileage will increase by two making it 29 MPG but they cannot determine City mileage! Any guesses?
 
Often when the 2011 4.6 is reviewed, the ride is referred to as nervous. My wife has an '05 Acura TL which is a terrific car, but that rise is something I would refer to as nervous without a doubt. Constantly tossing you around on uneven pavement but on smooth road, a great ride. I am guessing that the R Spec will ride somewhat differently than previous models but since I have only driven a '10 for about 15 minutes, I have no feel for what "nervous" means in quantitative sense.
 
Are the 2012 suspension specs different than 09, 10, 11's? I keep hearing and seeing that the suspension has been changed on the 12's. I just dont know what that change is.

Ive got the dealer waiting on a 2012 and to call me as soon as one comes in.

From what I have read and others here have stated, front and rear stablilizer bars are 1 mm thicker. Larger wheels and different tires. Be sure to let us know when dealer calls you with update on the release.
 
In my continuing search for release information for the 2012 model I came across the following website. The webiste is a gallery of photos of the South Korean version of the 2012 Genesis Sedan. While they only offer two six cylinder varitions in South Korea, it appears the 2012 South Korea version does include the same 19" wheels that the R-Spec will be using in the States. The gallery shows the 19" wheels mounted with Continental tires. I am hoping that this is an indication as to what will be standard on the R-Spec. I am sure there are other differences between the South Korea model and its U.S. counterpart (such as the LED headlamps) but I thought the group may want to see the gallery:
