  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012...

Any idea when it is coming to local dealerships in USA? I am guessing it should be in a few weeks or maybe even start of June since we are finally seeing prices.

if you can't tunrn that LDWS off i will never upgrade to one of these some day.. no thanks. $1500 for the power folding mirrors, rear heated seats, LDWS and new 8spd (taking it to be as great as the ZF 6spd) is not a bad price increase but.... it'll be a while before they move all the '11 leftovers so they are going to command higher than invoice more than likely. figure until at least dec-jan you're not getting a 4.6 for under invoice. by then the new new one will only be a couple months away lol.

I would really like to add the Bridgestone's to the R-Spec but I am having trouble with the MSRP of $1,400 for this upgrade. I see that Tirerack, for example, is offering a full set of the same Bridgestones for $1,056. Has anyone had any luck with taking delivery of a new car, switching the tires out immediately at a tire shop, and getting credit for the factory tires? Even if there is no credit given, it just seems crazy that Hyundai is charging more for the Bridgestone's as an "upgrade" than the tires can be purchased for outright.

And don't forget the bigger tires!
(Btw, LDWS default position is off. At least on the Horse.)

Considering the fact that you're getting an 8-speed transmission (pretty exclusive in this price range) and upgraded safety features like DRLs, LDWS, etc (available on all trims), $1,200 bucks really doesn't break the bank. At least not in my opinion. Part of me wishes that they continue to move few of these cars (so that we continue to get really good deals on the best-kept-secret out there). Though I don't want to run the risk of a Genesis-less future. :(

good to know. i will probably ride this car out until the next generation comes out figure another few years should be redesigned i think MAX 3 years new genesis will be out. and you know we won't hear a thing about the new one until it pops in the door lol

Like most of you I've been holding off buying a new car until the 2012 Genesis's are available (almost bought a 2011 4.6 a day before the news of the 2012 came out). I live in the S.F. bay area and called several Hyundai dealers today on their availablity of the 2012 and half of them did not have a clue on the 2012's and a few said that they are on the ships heading to the U.S. One dealer told me that it wouldn't be until October until they arrive (I don't believe this). Anyways, nothing here in the S.F. Bay area yet.

I have one dealer giving a 30 to 60 day time frame and that seems about right.

just be prepared to pay $6k more for a '12. they will not be dealing on them for a while. right now we are getting '11's with ALL the holdback out $36,xxx. even at $1000 under invoice '12's are going to be around $42k. to me the 4.6 is not worth that much more, no where near it. the 3.8 could be due to the extra HP and 8speed, but not the 4.6, no DI so you're paying for basically rear htd seats (who could care?) power folding mirrors (on this car they barely stick out, not like an Escalade size mirror you're protecting lol) lane departure warning system (if it doesn't have a defeat switch like the Equus has that is going to be extremely annoying) and an 8speed trans (which is NOT a ZF unit like the 6speed in here now) so where's the value? in the headlights? taillights? rear bumper? i don't see it for $6k more. you'll have to wait for the '13's to be coming before you get a low low price and even then it will be $1500 more because the car is. good luck RTSM. to each his own, either car is great, '11's are just a waaaay better deal right now and there's still 6+ months in 2011 lol

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about the 2012's. An 8-speed automatic is going to shift a LOT more than a 6-speed and the current ZF is a tried and true unit vs an all-new Hyundai tranny.

In 2006 I purchased the Lexus LS460 with the eight speed transmission and maybe it was just me but I was not that impressed. I had allot of problems with my LS460 and eight months into the car I traded for a new 2007 Cadillac DTS with the four speed transmission, now please do not laugh as I salvaged thousands of dollars in that deal and had no problems with the Cadillac. I did notice right off that there is a big difference between a four speed and eight speed transmission. I traded the Cadillac for the 2010 Genesis 4.6 with six speed transmission and love the six speed transmission and really can not see where the eight can get any better but can not wait to test drive a 2012. I love the size of the Genesis 4.6 and I have now gained back many of the features that were in the Lexus LS460, IMO the Genesis is worth every penny and over all is the better car. I see the Lexus LS460 as being over priced and no more than a glorified Toyota.

it's crazy but if it was a "Toyota LS460" there would be no argument that the two cars are on the same level. the snobby attitude about i have a "Lexus" or a "BMW" etc. is why hyundai SHOULD'VE went with a sub brand, even if at first they ran them out of Hyundai dealers (think Lincoln/Mercury). i don't believe the switchgear in the Lex is any better than the Genesis. Now the Audi, Mercedes gear is better, but they have their own issues and cost an arm and a leg (but imo still a step up in terms of refinement, luxury)

Happy June 1st, who will be the first to report a sighting of a 2012 Genesis
on the lot?

I'll do my best. Drive by the dealer every day on my way to work (and back home).

PS --> Saw my first shiny black '11 with WINGS on last night (it was early evening, there was still sunlight out and the car's headlights were on).

WOW. It looked incredible! From all angles, looked just beautiful - very expensive-looking, that's for sure. Can't wait to see a '12 that way!

Just checking in... Anyone heard any news on the arrival of the 2012's yet?

Edmunds has just updated their sight, now showing the Genesis 3.8,4.6 and R Spec as being available.

The updated detailed pricing has been released and that's about it. I don't think the 2012s are off the ships yet. My guess is the cars could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 weeks away but that's pure speculation.

I'm sure the same complaints were heard when the majority of automatics were 3 speeds and the first 5 speeds came out. But more ratios = better gas mileage, so 8 speeds aren't going to go away.

It all comes down to execution. If the new 8-speed is slow to shift, hunts constantly, or transmits a lot of driveline lash into the cabin, people are going to be annoyed by it. But Hyundai has done so well with their new engine technology that I wouldn't bet against them!

Whoa, the 2112 Genesis? That's one well established nameplate.

I hope it has a 1.5 liter turbocharged ion drive making at least 2000 horsepower, and gets at least 52/79 miles per particle of antimatter.
