  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So a week ago while i was driving my oil temp suddenly went real high (maxed out) and my lights for engine and oil came up... I parked it at my house thinking it was nothing and let it be. I came out the next day and there looked like a huge oil leak under my car, checked my oil, solid. Checked coolant though, empty. Not a huge car guy, so didnt know what was up... filled coolant up a bit, poured a quart of oil into the engine (just in case, kind of thing since I had an oil change 2 months ago) and let it sit overnight. Still leaking... opened up radiator cap and reservoir tank... this sludge like brown substance where the coolant should be... thats not good. Get it brought to the mechanic shop, they say potential head gaskets, flushing out radiator, etc. 600 dollars, gone. Went to pick it up this morning... they say the engine needs to be replaced... 6k. What in the hell? Anyone have an idea what a potential problem causing this would be. Is he bullshitting on engine replacement cost? I honestly think this mechanic is trying to be sheisty on me... Genesis People HELP! Any ideas?

Does not sound good. Could be the engine is shot and there is a fluid transfer where the head gasket went bad or even a crack in the block. Once water gets into the crankcase, bearings go real fast.

Did they already charge you $600 or was that the estimate before they got into it and said it was a goner? They should have been able to figure that out quickly.

yeah already charged me 800 with labor. And when I was about to come pick it up, they said they took it for a 2nd test drive and noticed that the engine had issues after the fact. Turbo Wastegate apparently was messed up, and caused it? Any ideas?

Look for a used engine on eBay or copart.com and get the shop to roll the initial diagnosis fee in the cost to replace the engine. $6k could certinaly be correct for a brand new motor from Hyundai.

Get a second opinion.
