  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

That's normal for the transmission on this car. Unless it's ACTUALLY slipping hard, there's not much you can do. Try using 93 octane, using a fuel injector cleaner (sometimes the engine on this model lags), and get the trans fluid and filter changed. Baby the transmission, stop gunning it from light to light, and drive it very conservatively.

Valve body rebuild is the usual fix for the hard shifts. Expect to pay a good shop several hundred dollars for the work. Most dealers will not do it (lazy, incompetent), but a competent transmission shop and skilled DIYers can do the rebuild. There is a thread on these forums with detailed step by step instructions and pictures.

Note: fluid changes on high-mileage transmissions can actually make shifting worse, not better. School of thought is that if the car has more than 100k miles, changing the fluid is not recommended. This is because heavily worn clutches in adaptive transmissions can depend on "sticky" old fluid for friction, and changing the fluid can tip them over the edge to the point where they will not completely engage. Fluid changes are absolutely required when replacing clutch packs.

Raf,
Sounds a little odd, but I started noticing shifting issues and shortly after my battery went out. It went away. It came back again several months later and the battery failed again and the alternator was bad. There definitely was an electrical link. I do notice a slight hard shift and will be getting the transmission fluid changed.

does it slam into gear?
if so no amount of fluid change will fix it, you need a new transmission, sorry, happen to my 2013, luckily it was within the warranty period of the dealership, so they replace me a new transmission.

Why does slamming into gear warrant a new transmission? If it's not affecting engine performance or making the car hard to drive, then what is the issue?

I'm not a mechanic, that's what happen to my vehicle, took it in and they say transmission going bad.

Dealer was about to replace the transmission on mine. Factory had them replace some solenoids and that worked.

Any check engine light? The two suggestions here..change transfluid and replace the ( torque converter converter control) solenoid are good starting places. Knowing the trouble code helps

CHANGE...don't flush the trans. It's my understanding that if the fluid is just drained there's still enough of the sticky stuff left that one of the other replies mentioned.
My experience was with a 6speed trans on a Dodge but the tech said it's common on lots of "electric" transmissions

I've done the dump and fill with good success at 102k miles. The intermittent misbehaving 2-3 shifts on my previous 2012 disappeared entirely. I presume this was due to a "refreshing" of the friction modifiers in the fluid that help the clutches give the proper amount of slip so the logic and solenoids aren't "fighting with the fluid" and causing rough shifts. Whole system has to work together, and sometimes the fluid is the weak link. A dump and fill is the cheapest option too and can be done by anyone anywhere.

IMO, don't flush. Dump and Fill is the way to go.

I am 3rd owner of 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 80K miles and dealer mentioned the warranty is 60K miles/5 Years for the 1st owner only and I do not have a warranty. (Can anyone confirm if this right correct please?)
The Transmission shifting becomes not normal and it giving a shocking feeling like the car is not moving then it's moving quickly which is basically delay during shifting and mostly it's happening during 1,2 and sometime 3.

I am think to change the filter and fluid of Transmission and also the gas filter, what do you guys think about this please?

In the US, the original factory bumper to bumper warranty was 5/60. First owners were given a non-transferrable powertrain warranty to 10/100. So as a 3rd owner you would only have ever been covered by the 5/60, which is long gone.

Do a dump and fill on the transmission and see if the shifting improves. The slippery and rough shifts in the silver '12 improved significantly at 100k after a single dump and fill (about 1/3 of the trans fluid).
