  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Trying to find out if anyone else has had this issue. I have read where people have an issue where the screen freezes on the GENESIS screen, but my screen freezes after about 15-20 minutes of driving. None of the buttons work around the screen or on the middle console between the seats. I can hit the buttons and they work (i.e. when I hit the fan buttons, I hear the fan go faster or slower), but nothing appears on the screen. The knob on the center console between the seats doesn't do anything either. I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow morning. I took videos for them to see what is going on just in case they can not replicate it tomorrow.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks.

I have only had my 2014 R-Spec for a few weeks now, but it has frozen on me once. It got stuck on the "Agree" screen and none of the buttons/i-Drive knob would do anything. Turned off the car for a few minutes and started it up again and the problem was solved. Hasn't happened again since.

Please report back with what the dealer says!

I seem to have the issue while driving and not at the start up. Not sure. Seems to me to be a glitch somewhere. I have heard that the computer in the Genesis runs Windows CE, so maybe...

After I get back from the dealer, I will definately post what they say (or not say).

The way to handle these glitches is to video them since you will rarely be able to duplicate them at the dealer. In my case, glitches like these happened about a dozen times, but corrected themselves after car restarts. Then it happened one day when I was 10 minutes from the dealer. I drove there with the screen frozen and they quickly ordered a new head unit.

After more than a year with my second head unit, I started having new problems just this week. The Nav screen would suddenly freeze in the phone view. It showed that it had called my phone and the call timer was also running. Very strange. I drove right to the dealer and they witnessed it. They pulled the instrument panel fuse and reset it, but the reset didn't stop the problem. I scheduled a service appointment to check further the next day, but the situation corrected itself overnight. I decided to cancel the service appointment but, needless to say, I am watching it closely for a repeat.

Don't forget that your Nav/radio is only covered for 3 years/36,000. I'm sure that we are all wondering if the 2015 model will experience similar electronic glitches. What say you, Hyundai?

Well,
I had my service done on Saturday and they ended up resetting the system. I didn't even make it 10 miles and the system froze up again. I called them back and I have to go into the dealership during the week since they have to contact someone higher and they are not in on weekends. I do get a loaner (non R-Spec) Genesis though. I tried to get an Equus, but... yeah... no. I will keep everyone posted.

I have been having a problem similar on my 2013 R-Spec as well. About 70% of the time I start the car the nav screen stays blank. I have to push the center control knob for the screen to come on (yes, the head unit power is on). If I move the shift lever out of park before I push the knob, the screen will stay blank no matter what I do until I turn the car off and back on. When the screen is blank, the radio still plays and the commands from the console still work, I just can't see what the hell I'm doing on the screen. I'm very worried that when I take the car in for it's next service they are going to tell me they couldn't recreate the problem, or they'll just "reset" the screen or some other BS "fix". I did record the problem using my phone, so I at least have that as evidence. Is there a TSB out there about this?

I had this happen on my 2013 Premium a couple of times when I left a thumb drive in the USB slot that had some unplayable .wav files on it. It seemed to end up resetting itself next time I'd turn on the car as long as I removed the offending files. Hasn't reoccurred.

Well, I had the whole center Screen replaced. Has not happened since then (knock on wood). Took the car in on Thursday, they over-nighted the part, replaced it on Friday. Then they cleaned and detailed the car and I was back in my R-Spec.

They gave me a 2014 Genesis Loaner car (non-R spec). I tried for the Equus, but that wasn't happening!

My screen is non-functional right now, as is most of the system. Radio works but stations switch on me, and none of the i-drive rotary wheel or buttons work. Bluetooth, NAV and USB do not work either. And cannot see HVAC. They are switching the entire unit. Better now under warranty then later. So does that mean I will have an additional 3 months of XM since the radio will probably have a new ID?

I'm at 37,000 miles and it has happened about 3 times this month. It has happened intermittently since I bought the car although I did go quite a while without experiencing the problem. The head unit has been replaced 3 times. Hyundai won't do anything for me at this point. There is no fix. I have a 2012 and many others before and after my model year have the problem. It is a widespread issue that won't be resolved. There are several threads on this issue.

You will have to live with it. You bought a Hyundai, drive a nice car, and saved a lot of money. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you need to live with this problem.
