  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've read several people on here say they would not buy withouth a CPO.

This car is just over 60k miles, so it can't be a CPO. It's a 3.8, 64k miles. $15,500 out the door.

It is the top package (Premium and Tech).

I'm on the brink of pulling the trigger. But am getting cold feet.

CPO gives you a 10 year - 100K mile warranty on the drivetrain (engine, transmission), which is normally only available to original owners unless the car is sold as CPO by a Hyundai dealer. But the real concern is all the electronics, both for the infotainment/Nav system, and things like adaptive cruise control.

Hyundai dealer techs usually don't repair items, they just replace them, and the cost can be astronomical if something goes wrong.

So coverage for this, is it easily / affordably insured regardless of mileage?

In this situation would you buy or avoid?

A Hyundai extended warranty may cover it, but not sure if you can get one if your regular warranty has expired.

Prices on extended warranties vary wildly, and some dealers quote way over their cost. There are many threads on where to get a good price on a Hyundai extended warranty (if that car still qualifies).

Any used car without ANY warranty is eventually going to pull the trigger on you.

It like dating someone new, you don't know how long things will stay good. But you have to take a chance if you really like them. Might be good for one year or 10 years. Take the chance if you really want it.

Or, think again and make a wiser pick. If you must buy this car, get a solid extended warranty.

My 2011 4.6 v8 with tech has 191,000 miles. I purchased it new Sept. 2010 and the car is still great. Recently had to have fuel gauge sending unit in gas tank replaced. Everything else has been only maintenance. So have your car checked out before purchase by a shop that can do a scan and test all electrical, nav, radio, cruise etc.

My opinion, if the price is right and the inspections come back good, go for it.
Got my car in 2014 - 30+ miles on it. Got the WRAP warranty. If you can get the warranty, get it! The only issue has been brake system failed (warranty fixed), Navigation freeze (warranty fixed) and recently rear door lock actuator (warranty fixed). There has not been a major issue such as transmission/engine.
I have approx 93k miles on her now. Car has been extremely reliable as I drive 500 miles a week for work.
If I had the coin I would buy another Gen sedan 4.6 and park this one.

Just my $.50 in monopoly money. :)

The miles are high at 64K but looks like the price is low. I'd check KBB and you'll have a better gauge on how good the deal is. If the price is way below KBB then any repairs can be factored in "should" they pop up. At $15.5 out the door it sounds like a deal I'd go for! It's a sweet ride!

Last thing, if you feel weird about it, use cargurus and keep searching! Never settle if your gut is telling you not too! I searched for MONTHS for mine.

Thanks to all for the responses. Yeah, I know that any car is a time bomb waiting to go off.

I have used KBB and Nada, this is a good deal. I found this deal via Cargurus (i'm about 4 hours away). I have been looking for months (I always look for a good deal).

I had previously passed on a 15 Signature (Demo) for 29k, I would have purchased one, but the interior color I wanted was sold two days before I was able to go to a dealership a few hours away, the only one left had black - which I didn't want, so I passed.

Even though the electronics could go bad, and I may not be able to easily get a Warranty, part of me is still tempted, as for the price, I think a base model for this year with this mileage would go for about the same.

I'm assuming that even if the ACC went out, it wouldn't effect the other functionality of the car. If the GPS going out wouldn't effect the operability of the radio, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Decisions, decisions.....

I purchased a CarChex warranty for my E63. They have paid two claims for me. So if you keep good records and have proof of maintenance the extended warranties will pay. I also had my repair claims done at my Mercedes dealership. You will need to get the option for the nav cruise and electronics such as ACC.

I just picked up my 2013 3.8 with 46k on it for $16k. Made them throw in a 3 year extended bumper to bumper after the Hyundai one runs out.

I bought a 2 yr. old 2013 3.8 with the tech package. Car had about 27k when I bought it. Now has roughly 65k. Only had two problems with it, one being a noisy idler pulley and the second being it had one of those faulty transmissions which had to be replaced. Both were done under warranty and done quickly by the superb dealership in my area. Being it was a used car I had up to 60k on the factory warranty, I bought a good extended warranty which will carry me to 5 yrs. or 125k miles. I'm a rep for an hvac manufacturer and I spend a lot of time on the road so I expect that I will meet the mileage limit first. Let me just say that this is the best car I have ever owned and I wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again. In fact when I get to my 125k mile warranty limit I plan to buy another Genesis (perhaps an Equus if I can make the figures work out). I've said all this to get to my point; if you like it buy it, but don't do so without a good warranty that goes past factory. Repairs on these cars are too expensive to gamble on whether or not something will go wrong. Buy it, enjoy it and drive the hell out of it.
