  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey team.

Hoping someone may be able to assist on my last ditch effort.

I have a 2013 Genesis R-spec sedan, bought it 3 years ago used with about 50k on it.

I drove it off the lot, went to a gas station, and when I got back into my car my dash told me, both with an annoying 3 beeps and an image on the console, that there was an issue with the backup sensors.

Took it back to the dealership and told my sales guy, they took the car, said he "cleaned off the sensor" and then it didn't do it again for like 6 months.

Fast forward to now, it does it almost every time I turn the car on.

For a while I was able to go to the rear bumper and just lightly rap my hand on each sensor, turn the car on, and no sound or noise was made and no image in the dash.

Now, definitely not the case.

Per the usual, my extended warranty just happens to NOT cover the rear sensors so the dealer quoted me $880 for two new sensors and replacement with no guarantee it will work since there are 4 total sensors.

I have one sensor in particular, the far left one, that looks like it is slightly off shape in the bumper itself, like instead of being flush with the rear bumper, one side of it is a butt hair pushed in (or pushed out depending on your perspective).

My ask here is, does anyone know how to resolve this concern?

I'm able to reach the far left and right sensors from under the car, I can feel the wiring and how the sensor is secured to the bumper, and I would be so down to cut the wires off that sensor if it resolved my issue.

Obviously I don't think that is the solution, but I'm open to it.

My car has 85k miles and I am going to sell it in about 10k more, wanting to get a G80 Ultimate, but not only do I not want the next owner to have this issue, but for my own sanity on the next 10k I'm looking to resolve this once and for all.

Anyone got anything for me?

If so, much appreciated!

_Michael

Look on web or eBay. I picked up brand new sensor for $80. And seeing you have access to the rear ones easily it should be easy fix. My issue were front one which to replace need to take off front bumper cover and there are no clear instructions to do that as followed repair manual but that is vague as to exactly how the cover comes off after you remove all screws. Ended up paying dealer to replace for $150. I wish I could have watched him do it. That’s my second gone bad. 1st was under warranty.

The quickest why to solve this problem may be to pay Hyundai to check the system. Their test equipment should be able to determine the problem. If not, why would you be paying them.

My second suggestion would be to check out the junk yards near you and even the recyclers on line for the sensors. Hyundai can tell you if the later G80 sensors would work with your Genesis. Hyundai can provide you with the correct part number and that would enable your search somewhat. No doubt you will replace the damaged sensor first. If you replace all rear sensors and the system still does not work it may be time to call it quits.

Appreciate the response.

Any chance you know which sensor you picked up on eBay?

Hey Bobby.

I did run this issue through my Hyundai dealer and they never were able to narrow it down, rather, they wanted me to buy 2 sensors and have them replace each one until they found the defective one(s).

Curious, any chance this is not a sensor issue but instead a power/battery issue?
