If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So it's taken multiple trips to the dealer.
And two reflashes later to get Hyundai to ok the trans replacement from the common slipping and hard shifting 8speed.
I bought the car used with 34k and experienced the trans problem 5000 miles into my ownership of the vehicle.
It has 49k as of this post.
Now here comes my question the most likely reman..trans is said to come in on Friday the 16th, dealer told me they won't need to lend me a loaner as it a one day job , I just don't have much faith in the the younger techs at the dealer (didn't even know much about the Genesis even how much hp car has )etc and even told me the've never done a Genesis trans swap before .
With that said has anyone (not that I can find on these forums ) had there car back in one day with trans swap?

Theoretically your dealer's service techs should have a manufacturer-created description of step by step instructions on how to remove and replace the transmission. There are also aftermarket versions of this same procedure. Any capable tech can follow those and do a competent job. I don't know if the job fits a one-day schedule or not but the answer would be in a book that describes the standard time and charge for almost every type of job on any make and model vehicle. The name escapes me at the moment but it is well known to the mechanics trade. If that book says it is more than 8 hours to do the R&R then you have a multiple-day repair.

I would take the car in on a Monday and tell them I have to have a loaner, period. I always get a loaner even if it is a 1/2 day job. I don't have time to mess with getting rides. On the repair itself, I agree that the techs get step by step instructions but sometimes things don't go well, such as a stripped bolt or broken connector and then it can take a longer.

Ya I know techs get step by step instructions on the jobs and a set pay rate hourly on the job they can make money good money on a 6 hr job if they finish in say 4hrs etc,
My concern is that I can't find a single thing on here were someone had there trans replaced and had there car back the same day lol ,

This is my sixth Hyundai in a row I know there process well haha.
They even went so far to say that my 40 serious tire could be causing my trans problem came with 45 (eyes rolling) .
Just glad there changing the trans and hopefully like most on here solves the problem for the long run
Cause over all I'm very happy with my spec (a better throttle response would be nice say maybe sprint boosterism the future)
Called the dealership there searching for a loaner for Monday
And I told them they won't get the car until I get one .

I believe it would be a one day job, easy. I have discussed possibly replacing the transmission on my '14 R-Spec due to some flaring between gears and really hard shifts at low speed/RPM and my brother said he would actually make money on the warranty job. (Hyundai calculates their book time by only "tool on" time, and not an iota more.) He told me we could get it done by lunch time. If I could lift my car high enough I could do it in my garage on a weekend. YMMV with your dealership/techs.

I suspect my flaring issue is primarily due to fried transmission fluid; caused by super low viscosity fluid Hyundai uses to eek out as much MPG as possible. It is an issue I fixed on a previous car by using a better non-OEM transmission fluid. The hard shifting I believe to be bad programming. I am contemplating doing a fluid swap with my preferred brand and going to a higher viscosity and seeing if that fixes the flaring. (Unfortunately Hyundai does not allow a transmission fluid service as a diagnostic. Any transmission problems and it is a replacement.) If it does, and the transmission likes the new fluid, I will have the transmission replaced. Either way I will be putting a transmission cooler on the car also.

Let us know how the transmission feels after the swap too! Inquiring minds want to know.

I defiantly will
The reset lasted a day it's slipping again tonight .

The book I was thinking of is the Flat Rate Manual. It assumes an "average" skilled person with required tools doing a specific job and estimates the average time required to do the job. It has nothing to do with the profit or loss the shop makes as it has nothing to do with the labor rate (which is different all over the country). The shop could bill a given job by actual time or by flat rate or by quote.

Little late in the response...I had a transmission replacement done at the dealership in one day.

Took place at 96000km. 36000km into ownership. I reported it to the service manager via a detailed email explaining the hard shifts and slipping of gears. I also provided a video of the slipping. I booked a service appointment for the car to be inspected. When the day came, I left the car for the day. When I returned, I was informed the transmission was replaced.

Vehicle has been great ever since. Currently at 119000km.

Hopefully your swap is as painless as mine was. Mine was also a 2013 R-spec.

Good luck!

If you don't mind a Sonata demo, or even a used car, I am sure they can find one.

I don't really care what it is , just can't stay there all day need to get to work (already took a few days off bringing the car to the dealer for this problem) and the genny is my only car

I know dealers don't have to give a loaner it's just a perk that dealer does for there customers at there own cost
Hyundai corporate ended there loaner
Program I believe last year .

My wife and I approach the loaner by saying something like this to the service manager. " By the way, make sure my loaner is a 4 door because I will be having other people with me throughout the day. " or " I have to be in Atlanta in 2 hours after I bring my car in, so make sure my loaner is ready when I drop my car off" Note that I do not "ask" for a loaner, I expect it without question. It has worked for us for the last 30 years with any brand.

Got the car back today ,took them two days to change it , glad i got them to give the wife a loaner .
She said said she just picked it up and seems to be shifting normal
Hope it the end of the transmission problems thanks evr1 for the input 🙂

Good news, Now have a Merry Christmas with no worry about the car.

UPDATE:

so I’m going to update this journey
flash forward 3yrs
And the replacement transmission started acting up again hard shifts slips etc now with 133k on the car and 83k on second trans

car goes to the dealer to investigate
They do what they can ....do an update see if it helps and it’s does, trans seem better only a minor hiccup the past month more on that
In a minute so I open a case with corporate to see about replacement even though way out of warranty ( replacement trans cover 1yr/12k).
I hear back from the dealer corporate wants flight recording of transmission so I get those done at the dealer
Waiting game blah blah I hear back from corporate closes the case file best of luck to you
so Iget a call from dealer today to let me know that the my service writer (love her)
Sent the recording to another part of corporate
Techs and they called her and said trans needs replacement so I figure they gonna cover the trans and I’m on the hook for Labor or something like that nope !
There covering 100% of the replacement
So shout out to Central Hyundai for going to bat for me she told me on the phone she never seen this happen before
Christmas came early

I have a 2013 Genesis sedan with a 3.8, 92,000 miles. We purchased it with 36,000 miles and around 50,000 started having shifting issues. I took it to the local dealer and they wouldn't do anything since it was an intermittent problem. I talked with them several times about the issue. A few months ago I was talking with the shop that works on my diesel truck and after about a minute of looking on the computer he asked if they had ever done a software update (there were 5 updates available). They had not so I immediately went to the dealer and asked about it. They did the update, the software is a "learning program" and after a couple of days it shifted great. Now it seems to "unlearn" and start the process over. It has gone through the process several times now. It seems to me this is a computer problem, not a transmission problem. Sorry for the long explanation but I am curious if anyone else has had the same experience.
