2014 Genesis R-Spec Mystery Problem

I have been the proud owner of a 2014 R-Spec for the past 5 years and have absolutely loved this car.... until recently! For the last 3 months, the car has mysteriously lost power and stalled multiple (6 or 8) times. It all started one afternoon when I was on the interstate on my way to the beach. After being stuck in a traffic jam behind a wreck, I started hearing an intermittent beep as I continued on to my destination. I got within 100 yards of my spot when the car lost all power and stopped on the side of the road. I ended up having it towed (thanks, AAA) to the dealership in St. Pete, where it sat thru the weekend. I called Monday morning and was told that 7 of their 10 technicians were out due to Covid and that I (and my car) were SOL for at least a week. Clearly, that wasn't going to work, so I had it towed back to Tampa (on my dime) to my trusty Tires Plus store where they ultimately replaced the alternator with an OEM part. I lead with all of this detail because this was the event that started it all. I'm not convinced it's related, but I'm also not convinced it's not.

Since then, Spring Break / end of March, the car has lost power and stalled multiple additional times. It always starts with a couple of misses, coughs and sputters. The check engine light comes on and every other "idiot light is blinking at me too. I can often, but not always get it started right away when it stalls completely. When it starts, it bucks like a bronco, sputters, chokes, backfires and belches black exhaust all the way back to the shop. Other times it won't start for hours, but finally will with the same end result... coughing, choking and sputtering. Tires Plus has replaced the alternator, which they claimed was faulty, and that "fixed it", so I drove it to Tallahassee and it was fine. Three weeks later, the same thing happened again. Each time, the shop reads and clears all the codes, but cannot replicate the problem. After a day or two of poking around (apparently) without success, I pick the car up and drive it for 2 or 3 weeks without issues, until it happens again.

Does anyone have any advice other than "take to the dealership" where I can't even get someone to call me back. I am beyond frustrated! Thanks in advance!

Seven of ten mechanics with Covid? You must be mistaken. The governor of Florida says everything is normal there. Find another dealer, not a tire store. Be prepared to leave the car and rent one if necessary.
 
I know, right? Blew my mind too. Covid???

After I wrote my intro, above, the guys at Tire Plus sent me a list of all the codes they were able to pull from my car.

P0030, P0050, P0087, P0089, P00130, P00150, P0232, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0305, P0307 and P0308.

The service manager said “way too many codes… This can’t be right… You need to take it to the dealership”

Additional thoughts or ideas?
 
Take it to the shop.
 
As a follow up... to date, my R-Spec has been to the Hyundai/Genesis Dealer 4 times and I am +-$3k into "fixes" without any of them actually fixing the problem. Every 2 - 3 weeks it still burps, bucks, misses and stalls out. I can sometimes limp on in to the dealership and other times it gets towed. Unfortunately, they are no closer to getting it fixed than they were at the beginning. My last directive to them (2 days ago) was to get it running so I can trade it in at the end of the week! The verdict is still out on how smart I am for trading it in for a G80 3.3T???

Your codes are describing a driver circuit fault in the ECM. Have they put a new one in yet or oscoped the circuits with a proper multichannel scope?

Please tell me they didn’t replace the O2s, fuel pump, PCV/EVAP or spark system components first. Replacing the alternator wasn’t a bad choice lacking proper diagnostic equipment, though It lacking output for their test was probably because the ECM was still taking a dump.

That's exactly what they did (and I paid for)...replaced plugs, a couple of coils, fuel pump regulator... I have heard nothing about a driver circuit fault in the ECM until you responded.
 
Woolly, you are posting this problem in the ‘15-‘16 forum. Wouldn’t it be more productive to ask your questions in the ‘09-‘14 forum since you own a ‘14?

Difference between a scan tool holder and a tech. They replaced each of the irrelevant codes and didn't start testing at the one place they all connect. The circuit control electronics in the ECM are the most likely culprit because they all share the same brain, if something has cracked or failed inside the ecm circuit boards you get exactly this behavior. An oscilloscope will tell you if spurious or noisy (or none) output is occurring and if it's happening to everything at once or once at a time.
