  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If you had to choose between the refreshed Equus (2014+) or the 1st gen (2011-2013) Equus, which would you prefer?

I can't quite decide myself...(poor me)...but I'll list my pros and cons and hopefully you all can toss some of your input in as well.

2011 - Not an option, I want the 5.0L V8.

2012/2013
Pro

Fridge!
Massage!
Cheaper!

Cons
Chrome accents - meh
Polished chrome wheels - NOT MY TASTE - and wayy to expensive to replace
Interior design - relatively unsophisticated and "plastic-y" (specifically the center dash console)

2014+
Pro

Heads up display
360 Camera
Higher grade dashboard - subjective but it looks more sophisticated and inline with class expectations.
Sexy turbine wheels
2x9.2 inch screens in the back vs 1 8inch.

Cons
No Fridge :(
No Massage :(
More expensive :(

These cars, regardless of year, are all very similar and are all very striking. I'd still be going bananas just to have a 2011 Signature - but if I plan on getting a car for the long haul I prefer to have EXACTLY what I want. Unfortunately with Hyundai substituting some features for others between refreshes, it comes with slight compromises either way.

Current owners - what are your thoughts? Do you prefer the older models, or the more recent 2014+ models?

Leave the G90 out of it...that's a completely different car :P

Note - these are just my opinion, not hating on anybodys car :grouphug:

Unless you plan on buying a Hyundai extended warranty, get the one with longest remaining warranty.

It'd be a CPO model only. The $$$ is worth the piece of mind.
The CPO does extend the drivetrain warranty to 10 years or 100K miles, but if you are keeping the car beyond the new car warranty, then the electronics is extremely costly to repair if there is a problem, and problems have been reported on those things. But I don't know how long you plan to keep it.

I suppose you're referring to the Hyundai Protection Plan? I'd easily put 20k miles on the car a year...so whatever I can do to extend the warranty the better!

if the car is still in the factory bumper to bumper warranty then the Hyundai protection plan is fairly inexpensive
I paid $2000 for the 10 year "wrap" pan on my 2011 Equus when I bought it

As for the selection you listed above
I do agree the wheels look better on the 2014 as does the clock
However the rest of the interior is about the same...quality wise

The fridge in the back...meh
I never got that feature..it doesnt operate when the car is off
Unless you have are taking multi-hour trip what is the point?

The heads up display would be a huge plus.
The car I had before the Equus...a 2005 Cadillac STS had the heads up display

I also think you get the self closing doors as well with the 2014 Ultimate?
A feature I enjoyed as well years ago with an S class Mercedes I owned years ago

Which S class and year model did you have prior? How does it compare to a 2011+ Equus?

a mid 90's 140 chassis car
The car was literally a rolling tank...as I recall it weighed over 5000lbs and the window sticker was about $90K
I bought it when it was 6 years old
IMO..Mercedes benz built that era S class like there was no expense to be spared. The build quality was unbelievable
As compared to Equus...clearly we are talking about a car that is at least 15 years newer
So...there has been clearly a lot of technology that has come along
However..my Mercedes had the self closing doors and trunk as standard as well as the power folding mirrors
Its also had a Bose system with 2 subwoofers that blows the one away in my Equus..or frankly any other car I have ever owned
