  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has removed the engine splash shield off the car and has left it off? Since I bought my genesis and over the years of taking it to a shop for an oil change I have noticed everyone has done a poor job at putting it back on. I had to use zipties in some spots because some of it has been broken and doesnt reach where it needs to be. My question is, if i take it off and leave it off will there be an increase in noise and what are the chances of my car being damaged from doing this? Thank you

I don't know the definitive answer but I know what I'd do. The new models have an access door for the filter. I'd cut out that section where the filter is and leave the rest in place. Someone here made a removeable section too, don't recall the details.

I agree with EdP. Cut out the hole and make a little door so you will never have to remove it again. When I open and engine bay in the car that is missing this cover and I can see the ground, it just hurts my eyes. This cover prevents from all the dirt and water from getting into the engine bay even though engine bay still gets dirty.

I had my damaged during a bad snow storm and am wondering should I replace it or just duct tape it

Been running without both covers for about 3000 miles now.
Can't see any difference, or hear any difference.

Duct tape is good. Not an overly critical part, more for aerodynamics than mechanical function.

There have been reports of steering rack failures caused by water or mud getting splashed into them when the undercover is missing. It's a very expensive part to take a chance on.

The whole cheap plastic shield under my 2015 started falling off during a road trip in Texas. I noticed a loud humming noise while driving on a very busy highway near Dallas at rush hour and pulled off the highway to find 1/2 of the shield was hanging and dragging on the ground. Thankfully I was able to white knuckle my way to a Hyundai dealer in a nearby town and they were super nice and fit me into their shop and ripped the whole shield off and trashed it for me. He said there was no need for it and I had no worries driving without it. I went 2 years without it before I traded the car in.

Mine is ripped too because of mechanics not giving a shit, Australian price for new is au$600 and I dont think that includes the clips, ridiculous!!
I am wary of removing because Hyundai has had 2 recalls for water ingress, would be dodgy without the shield
