  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello newbie here. I just purchased a 2015 sedan awd with 99k miles. During the test drive at the dealer transmission shifted fine didn’t notice anything. A couple days ago I noticed that from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th it would shift hard. Also if I accelerate hard from a stop the awd fault light would come on but as soon as i turn off the car it goes away. I do have a warranty and will be taking it in I just want to be little informed about what could be wrong with it before going in. Since I purchased it I’ve only been using shell premium gas. This is my first big purchase of a vehicle this expensive. Life started to go in the right direction financially. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

No need to use premium gas for this model car, plus it has nothign to do with transmission issues.

I have the same problems the dealership told me to change the gas to go to a different station , put in fuel cleaner, they put in a new transmission. The problem is still there ,I think that Hyundai knows what the problem is but for them to do a recall would cost them big money plus will have people lose faith in the brand. I been dealing with this problem for over one year and still is not fixed. But i will still hound them once or twice a week until i get a fix.

I don't see how changing gas will help a transmission problem. Maybe you need a better dealer.
If they know what the problem is, why do you think they would hide it from you? After a year I'd think they would fix it just to get you off their back.

So now we know of two cases with the problem, do you think that justifies a recall?

It’s just that I googled what fuel is recommended and said premium. It is good to know I can use regular. Thank you.
I noticed that when the car is cold it doesn’t shift as hard. Once it warms it starts but sometimes it will shift hard other times not so much. Also today I went for about 2hr drive on my way home at a stop light the AWD warning light came on. I did notice that when I backed into my drive it feels like I am driving a truck with 4x4 activated. I will be tacking the car to the dealer on Monday. I will keep you guys updated.

I think the same problem that i;m having with the 2015 is the same problem that i had with my 2012. That so many are having and we all think that it;s the transmission but its not. That why i said recall and fix the problem if they know what it is. If you read all the threads you will see that it;s more than two cases.

But you don't know for sure they know. If they did, would they hide it from your dealer?
Why would they not fix your car if they could? Yes, a recall would be big bucks but fixing yours and a few others would not be. Just makes no sense to hide a fix for something.

Maybe you are not familiar to how the factory warranty works. These dealership are only aloud so much time to find the problem and fix the problem. If they can save the warranty money and the end of the year they will get a incentive. I think you know that. I have a appointment with a different dealership to look at this problem in a few weeks , i will be paying out of pocket this time. If they fix the problem ,then that will answer my question.

So I took my car in this Saturday, I spent 2.5 hrs sitting there. At first he told me it might be the rear differential after taking it out for a drive said I should call to see if my warranty will cover it. So they drained it a little to see if there were any metal flakes. About an hour later he calls me in and tells me it’s the transfer case. Said that it’s not communicating right with the transmission so that’s why it’s shifting hard between 2nd to 5th. He tells me it needs to be replaced and for some reason the computer was telling him that I don’t have a warranty, keep in mine that he told me to call to see if the diff was covered, and the best he can do is contact Hyundai and ask for help to replace the TC. I told him that I purchased the warranty he told me to go home and call to see what happened. I asked him if I continue driving the car will it make things worst he told me it’s 50/50. I had to drive 30 min back to my house to call the company from whom I bought the warranty. They told me the contract was not in the system. So he asked for the vin and I gave it to him, the car was in the system and the name that was in there system did not match mine. So I called the dealership asking to speak with the finance guy who filled out all the paperwork and they told me he was busy so I made an appointment to go back later that day. I get there and finance guy had a family emergency had to go home. They told me to call him at ten o’clock in the morning when he comes in. I told them to have him call me when I get off work they said ok. I texted my supervisor asked if I can take couple hours off work. So I will be going in tomorrow to speak with him. I just felt like I been given the run around. Do they not want to do the work? Has anybody ever experienced this. Sorry for going on and on.

Have to say the above sounds scary as all hell, 1st thing I’d do is be in the general managers office having a strong word with him about his finance officers compancy....and this dealerships business practices....

There are 2 TSB's available that might cure the symptom..

1) TSB #19-AT-014H (Date published: June 12 2019)
*This bulletin provides a procedure to diagnose an 8-speed automatic transaxle with a harsh and/or delayed shift using GDS.

2) TSB #19-AT-007H (Date published: April 15 2019)
*This bulletin provides a procedure to transfer oil pressure data to the TCU using GDS Mobile. This procedure is necessary to reduce the TCU learning time and improve the shift quality.

I recently had #2 performed on my 2016 Genesis 3.8 RWD sedan at the dealership, at No charge!,
which realy improved the shift quality.

I had the exact same issue as OP.
Took it to Local Hyundai, dropped the vehicle in the morning, EOD when I picked it, I was told it needs a new tranny.
It was good that my 2015 DH had Hyundai warranty.

Everything fine after the tranny replacement.

My car is fixed just pick it up this morning. Took them three weeks luckily they gave me a loaner and the warranty covered all the work. So the awd light coming on and having low speed rubbing noise was the transfer case. The tech told me something with the new HTRAC system was the problem. They had to replace it with a new transfer case. The hard shifting was the transmission and for that they replaced it with a reman trans. All in I only paid $100 deductible. Thank you for the input and suggestions. Take care and be safe.

Awesome
Enjoy your smoother ride
Cheers
